Explore Bellagio
The picture perfect town of Bellagio is situated in the convenient junction of the three branches of Lake Como. It is a must visit town that has earned the Pearl of Lake Como nickname. The town has a Michelin star restaurant, Ristorante Mistral, that is a great spot for the foodies. One of the most popular villas in Bellagio is the Villa Serbelloni on via Roma. The villa is not open to the public, but the surrounding garden is. The garden has views of the town that you cannot see from any other place. Villa Melzi is another villa that has a Japanese garden open to the public.
Varenna
Varenna, located on the eastern shore of the lake, completes that golden triangle of Lake Como, along with Bellagio and Menaggio. The golden triangle is so popular with tourists that it has its own ferry route. Varenna has a shaded lakeside promenade, similar to Menaggio, as well as cobbled pathways leading to the old town, similar to Bellagio. Varenna has a direct rail connection with Milan as well as the town of Tirano where the Bernina Express begins its journey. Castello di Vezio is the most visited tourist attraction of Varenna. This 13th century castle sits on a hilltop with amazing views of the lake and town. Villa Monastero is one of the few villas that has a museum and is open to the public.

Villa Balbianello
Villa Balbianello is one of the most famous villas on the lake. You may recognize this stunning villa from James Bond's Casino Royale or even Star Wars. It has beautiful terraced gardens and picturesque structures. It is open to the public through guided tours. The villa can only be accessed by boat (not car), but you may walk to it as well.
Villa Balbiano
Situated on the western shore of Lake Como, Villa Balbiano is an awe-inspiring Italian jewel, an exceptional historical palazzo that once belonged to the famous Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, who built it at the end of 16th century and used it as his main residence. A century later, it was enlarged and embellished by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini who used the Villa to host a gallant and frivolous society where festivals, banquets and dances followed one another relentlessly. Villa Balbiano is the largest private residence on the lake, occupying over 2ha, with extensive sumptuous garden, outdoor swimming pool, private pier and boathouse. Spectacular 17th century frescoes painted by the Recchi brothers and Agostino Silva still decorate the walls, untouched by time. With its illustrious past, an unparalleled mix of man-made and natural beauty, Villa Balbiano is one of the most glamorous locations on Lake Como.
Castello di Vezio
High above the terracotta rooftops of Varenna, the imposing Castello di Vezio offers magnificent views over Lake Como. The 13th-century building was once part of a chain of early-warning medieval watchtowers. Get there by taking a steep cobblestone path (about a half-hour hike) from Olivedo (the northern end of Varenna) to Vezio. You can also take a path (around 40 minutes' walk) along the Sentiero Scabium, reached by taking the uphill ramp just opposite the Villa Monastero.
Sentiero del Viandante Hike
A short but attractive path which runs from Varenna to Bellano along a thin mule track that winds along the side of the mountain among chestnut woods and mild cultivated slopes. In a few hours time it collects the best of the landscape characters in this part of Lombardy: majestic landscapes, botanical and geological peculiarities, tokens of faith, places of the popular imagination, scraps of fields, rustic houses, vineyards and olive groves which create a frame that has been sung by poets and writers at length and for a long time.
