There is so much to do in Carlsbad. If staying at the Westin, they offer a free shuttle to Downtown Carlsbad from 7am - Sunset. Enjoy tasty ramen (even though it will be august) at Gonzo, have a rooftop meal at the Italian/California eatery 264 Fresco, get your palm read at a local shop or check out one of the MANY breweries in the area. Most importantly, the beach here is fantastic. There's literally something for everyone - a great way to relax and fuel up before the wedding.
If you plan on coming in early or staying a few days, we highly recommend staying in Mission Beach, Pacific Beach, Bird Rock, La Jolla areas (we live in Pacific Beach so we are partial to that area). You MUST go to the beach. You MUST get tacos at Oscars and a California burrito at Harry's Taco Club. You MUST jump in the very cold yet very refreshing Pacific Ocean. You MUST try and see the green flash at sunset when the sun dips below the horizon. And if you do all of those things, we guarantee you will want to move here too. Ocean Beach is also a lot of fun if looking for a hippie vibe.
A leader in conservation, the San Diego Safari Park is a great way to see wild animals while supporting animal conservation and protection. This location is closer to Carlsbad but if you are sticking around longer, the San Diego Zoo (closer to downtown San Diego) is arguably the best zoo in the world!
If we are all still standing, we may get tickets to a Mets vs. Padres baseball game Sunday at 1:10pm. This stadium has amazing food which will be perfect for nursing a hangover. It's also close to the airport for those flying out.
For all the dead heads staying Sunday 8/25 and not into baseball, if you want to keep the party going, come grab a cold one and watch old people spin around in circles at this Grateful Dead bar. It’s a fun way to spend a Sunday on the marina.
