Day Trips From Lisbon
CASCAIS Picturesque seaside town popular with surfers. ~45-60 minute train from Lisbon. SINTRA Mountain resort town famed for unique castles and architecture. ~45 min train from Lisbon. Go early if day-tripping or stay a night or two in town as there are several castles to visit. Note: Tickets are required for castle and parks entry (more info: https://www.parquesdesintra.pt/en/).
Other Portuguese Destinations
PORTO & DOURO VALLEY ~3-4 hr train from Lisbon. Porto is a beautiful city and great basecamp for vineyard tours/river cruises up the Douro Valley. Porto also has a major airport for travel. THE ALGARVE Portugal's famed riviera. Faro and Lagos are the two most popular seaside towns. Note: Rental car is needed. THE AZORES AND MADEIRA “The Hawaii of Europe” (so they say). Like Hawaii, you’ll have to fly in/out, and a car rental is recommended if you're intending on hiking.
