Jono and Krista's meeting was nothing short of fate. They both never intended to go to school at UBC Okanagan, nor receive a business degree, but they both ended up there against the odds. Krista was fully set on post-secondary at SFU in Burnaby for a Criminology degree, and with her offer fully accepted. Jono was on a separate journey; an engineering path at Capilano University. However, on the last day possible, Krista accepted her offer at UBC Okanagan as a last-minute change of heart to take on the Forensic Psychology program, only switching to the management program after her 1st year. On the other side of Vancouver, Jono had decided engineering wasn't going to be his future and that Management at UBC Okanagan would be a better fit. Still unbeknownst to either of them, their paths were going to cross for the first time and stay linked for the rest of their lives. Jono and Krista first met during the 3rd year of the Management program at UBCO when they were placed into overlapping cohorts, meaning they shared many classes and inevitably many of the same friends. They had a few small run-ins at the start of the year, but they truly got to know each other when they were both selected to be on the UBCO JDC West Marketing Team. This is a business case competition where groups of 3 students are assigned a different sector of business (marketing, finance, HR etc.), and then must compete against other schools to break down a business case and present a resolution. Jono and Krista made up 2 of the 3 members of their Marketing team, spending every Friday afternoon together for weeks during their practice sessions. During this time together, their friendly, funny banter, sharing of common interests, and back-and-forth teasing eventually transformed into something more special. In February of 2018, Jono asked Krista to be his girlfriend. And now, the rest is history!
