Our favorite place to grab a fancy cocktail in our favorite Boston neighborhood. Drink features superb mixologists that make cocktails based on whatever flavor profile you are in the mood for (no menus!). Ask for Will and Jackie and tell them you're in town for Mike and Kayla's wedding.
If you love Italian food, delicious bakeries, good wine, and history, Boston's Historic North End is a great place to visit. Check out Paul Revere's House, the Old North Church, and take a walk along the Freedom Trail. When you get hungry, choose any restaurant you see and you will not be disappointed. [Nico is our favorite and is one of the few that takes reservations!] The North End is home to the world famous original Regina Pizzeria, a must-try if you are a pizza fan. Don't forget to stop at Mike's Pastry for a signature cannoli (heads up, they're cash only)!
Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market is a great place to check out street performers, learn some more of Boston's history, people-watch, grab a drink or explore some local cuisine. Quincy Market (located within the area known as Faneuil Hall) is chock full of food stands and push-cart shops with tons of New England inspired trinkets. It's a great place to go to kill some time and explore the city.
Home of the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park is a great place to explore. Whether you are just checking out the surrounding area, taking a tour of the park, or catching a Sox game, this is a must-see for sports fans and non-sports fans alike. There are also tons of bars around the park, and make sure to find the Sausage Guy's cart (one of our personal favorites) and get an Italian sausage (we like it with peppers and onions) for a true ballpark experience. If you are looking for a nice dinner, Island Creek in Kenmore Square is a must. We celebrated our engagement here so it will always hold a special place in our hearts.
If you love shopping, you must visit Newbury Street right in the heart of Boston. Filled with salons, boutiques, trendy bars, upscale restaurants, and more, this two-mile long stretch offers options for everyone. The storefronts are all historic brownstones and the street itself is beautiful. On the corner of Newbury and Dartmouth St., you will find our favorite restaurant, Saltie Girl. If you are in the mood for some seafood, do yourself a favor and stop by. Just make sure you get there early to put your name in (do what we do, and go get a drink somewhere else while you're waiting, they'll call you when your table is ready!) because they don't take reservations and they fill up very quickly.
If you want to get away from the bustle of the city and spend some time away from the pavement, check out Boston Common/the Boston Public Garden. Located right across the street from one another, these two parks offer beautiful landscaping (especially the Public Garden), a place to sit down and have a picnic, go for a walk, or take a ride on the famous Swan Boats!
We love this restaurant so much that we are giving it its own entry. You HAVE to eat here at least once while you're in town. Lonestar is a small place with a really cool vibe, relatively limited seating (some outdoor seating available weather permitting), no reservations, fast service, and great cocktails. The limited menu means every single thing on it is delicious and you really can't go wrong, and they always have a daily special taco that is top notch. The food comes out as it's ready so order a starter or two and a couple tacos and you'll be set. The Mexican Street Corn and the Chili con Queso are our favorite starters; Kayla's favorite taco is the Baja Fish (or the Pork Bahn Mi if they have it as their daily special) and Mike's is the Carnitas. Let us know you went and we'll be jealous.
If you know us, you know we love brewery hopping! Here are our favorites around the area: Lamplighter (284 Broadway, Cambridge MA) Nightshift (87 Santilli Highway, Everett MA) Aeronaut (14 Tyler Street, Somerville MA) Trillium Beer Garden (Atlantic Ave & High Street, Boston MA) Trillium Brewery & Tap Room (110 Shawmut Road, Canton MA) For those up for a road trip: Treehouse (129 Sturbridge Road, Charlton MA- the line can get LONG so be sure to check their Twitter for real-time line updates and to see if there are any special releases that would draw a large crowd.)
