How We Met

April 27, 2018

Becca and Sam met while attending a concert at Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. They were both there with their own friends, and while waiting to meet the opening band (The Aces) in the lobby, the two friend groups began conversing, mostly because Sam needed to pass out some fliers for the street team she was on. While Sam was getting these fliers passed out and pictures taken for proof, Becca noticed Sam's phone case of guitar picks and told her "nice picks!" thinking it would strike up a conversation; however, Sam replied "thanks" and moved on to the next person. Little did they know that two days later, they would be meeting up while seeing the same band in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Both Becca and Sam traveled with the same friends as the previous show, and got to talking while the headlining band was on stage. At the end of the night, a group chat had been created with all of the friends, though it was only a couple of months later that Becca and Sam started talking outside of that group chat.

Just Friends

Summer 2018

As Becca lived in Oak Forest and Sam lived in Chicago, they weren't able to get together as often as they would've liked, so they always made an effort to go to shows together when they could. Over the summer, Becca and Sam had traveled to Ohio, Michigan, and back to Chicago to go to concerts together. At all of these shows, there definitely was some flirting going on between the two of them; however, they both just dismissed it as they were “just friends having fun!” A month later, on August 2-5, it was Lollapalooza weekend. Sam had invited some friends to stay over at her 350 square foot studio apartment for the entire weekend, not caring about the fact there was hardly anywhere to sleep, and the fact that 4 girls would now have to share 1 bathroom. Sam did offer for someone to share a bed with her if needed but made sure to be clear that only Becca was included in that offer. Unfortunately for Sam, Becca nervously turned her down, and slept on the ground right next to the bed. The following weekend, Becca held a get together at her parent's house, and the Lollapalooza crew came over. That night, Sam was the only one invited to sleep in Becca's room, and questions about their feelings for each other were picked up, and finalized the next day, by no one other than Shrina Patel. Shrina had pulled Becca aside while Sam was getting ready the next day to ask if she had feelings for Sam. Becca finally admitted to Shrina that she did in fact have a crush on Sam, but it didn't matter because "Sam was so out of her league." Shrina disagreed and offered to drive Sam home so she could corner her into finding out about her feelings. When they were a block away from Sam's apartment, Shrina asked her the burning question, and after an hour of not answering, Sam finally admitted to liking Becca. Shrina's mission had been accomplished!

The Start of Us

August 18, 2018

On this day, Becca had her college graduation party, so Sam was over at her house, along with many family members and friends. At this point, it was blatantly obvious that Becca and Sam liked each other, which meant Becca's friends had one mission: get them to kiss. After an afternoon busy with drinking Bud Light after Bud Light, the two of them were a liiiiittle bit tipsy, and Becca's friends knew it was time. Becca and Sam got shoved into the downstairs bathroom at the Gibbons' house, and they were not allowed out until they kissed. Only a few minutes went by until they were allowed out of the bathroom... Later that night, they found themselves in the upstairs bathroom and Sam had asked Becca what this meant for them. After asking that at least 5 times, Becca finally asked Sam if she wanted to be her girlfriend, to which Sam replied an obvious "yes!"

Did Someone Say U-Haul?!

January 5, 2019

Becca landed herself an internship at U.S. Soccer at the start of 2019, which made it the perfect timing to move into Sam's studio apartment. Of course, Sam's parents, Shirley and Pete, were ecstatic that someone was moving in with their little girl, and she wouldn't be alone at home anymore. Luckily Becca and Sam were only in the tiny studio apartment for a few months before they moved into a one bedroom place right down the road.

The Engagement

August 21, 2021

Becca made it known to Sam that she wanted to be the one who proposed, and she did not want to be proposed back to. This meant Becca had to figure out all of the details of the proposal to make sure it was a meaningful, perfect surprise for Sam. Becca went to work, speaking with her friends, Sam's friends, and everyone in between to start preparing decor, a speech, and finding the perfect location and photographer. In preparation, Becca needed Sam out of their home the afternoon of the big day so she could leave and get everything set up. Becca had reached out to Sam's friends, Eli and Christina, and encouraged them to take Sam out for an early dinner to catch up with each other. Throughout many group chat conversations, Eli and Christina took a long time to convince Sam to wear something a bit nicer than running shorts, a Cabo t-shirt, and sandals. Only a couple of minutes before the dinner reservation, Sam begrudgingly changed into what she considered a nice outfit at the time - ripped jeans and a tank top - with the encouragement from Becca and Brittany Gibbs. At the very end of dinner, Eli took an emergency call from her boyfriend, who said we had to go pick him up from the beach because him and his friends were drinking and there were now police involved. Christina offered to drive, and asked if it was okay if Sam came along, which of course, it was okay. Although Christina drove right by Sam's home, Sam stayed quiet in the backseat of the car, nervous about getting involved with police. After illegally parking on the side of the road, Sam, Christina, and Eli began their walk over to the beach. It was not until Sam was approximately 20 feet away from the whole set up, did she realize that the proposal going on on the beach was for her and that was actually Becca standing under the arch. As soon as Sam walked up, she teared up, and Becca can't remember a single word she said to Sam throughout the entire proposal. The most important thing was that Sam said yes!
