We met through our mutual friend, Jacey. She is Kyle's friend from high school and my friend from college. Junior year of college, Jacey went home for the weekend and invited me to accompany her. Kyle went over to Jacey's house that night, and we hit it off right away. I showed up to the party with a bottle of alcohol, as any college student would, and Kyle brought a bag of homemade tortillas. Right away I knew he was special. He took my phone and added himself on Instagram, Facebook, and added his phone number as well. The next day, he texted me and said "How about that Patriots game? #AwkwardFirstText".
Lake Tahoe is a special place to me, so I decided that's where I wanted to propose to Rebecca. I spent weeks doing research, planning, and coordinating with Becca's friends. Knowing how much Becca likes to talk to everybody, I thought I would save some time if I made sure her closest friends were there. I set up a plan to propose after brunch at Sunnyside in Lake Tahoe on the dock by the water. I was really nervous and Becca touched the ring box hidden away in my pocket a couple times during brunch. I staged a strategy map to position friends, my brother and his fiancée (our photographers), and my family while I proposed. I said "I know you thought engagement was a million miles away, but it's really only 99. Will you marry me?" Our place in Rocklin is 99 miles to the dock.
