We will start with the church ceremony, lasting around an hour. Please arrive 10-15 minutes before 4pm! After the ceremony, it is traditional for the guests to form a queue to congratulate the bride & groom in front of the church. We will then move to our reception venue (5 minutes walk). The evening will begin with a toast and smashing of the plate. It is the groom's job to clean the smashed plate, and guests are encouraged to make this as difficult as possible. There will be a four-course dinner. During the dinner, you may wish to tap your cutlery against your plate or glass. If enough guests do this, bride & groom must share a kiss. There will be an open bar serving a variety of spirits, wines, beers, mixers, and non-alcoholic drinks. Let us know if you have any special requests - we will do our best to accommodate! A proper Slovak wedding is an all-night party. To keep you going, there will be a buffet served around 10-11pm, and the DJ will be playing until 3-4am. You can also expect the usual wedding traditions, like the first dance, cutting of the cake, etc. At midnight, a traditional Slovak ceremony will take place, symbolising the bride's transition from a single lady to a married woman. With the assistance of traditional Slovak folk performers, we begin with the flower crown ceremony. Following this, there will be the 'Red Dance'. During the 'Red Dance', the guests will join hands and form a circle around the bride. Guests are able to join the bride and dance with her in the middle of the circle; however, traditionally, one must pay for the privilege. The folk performers will not allow you to dance without a small cash donation (no more than a couple of euros). At the end of the 'Red Dance', the groom must break in to claim the last dance with the bride, but guests must make this as difficult as possible! Stay as long as you like, but before you leave, make sure to find bride & groom so we may give you a small parting gift.
The dress code is formal.
Any contribution to our honeymoon would be greatly appreciated, but there's absolutely no expectation of gifts, your attendance is more than enough of a gift for us.
Both Wizz Air and Ryanair offer direct flights from London to Košice. This would be the easiest option, as the airport is very close to the city! If you're unable to fly directly, here are a couple of alternatives: - London Luton to Poprad Tatry. This airport is an hour and a half direct train ride to Košice, or about a one-hour drive. Flights are with WizzAir. - Most UK airports offer direct flights to Budapest. This airport is a three and half hour direct train ride to Košice, or about a two-hour drive. - You can also fly to Bratislava from London, Manchester, Leeds, or Edinburgh. It is a five-hour direct train or about four and a half-hour drive.
Bring plenty of light, breathable summer clothes, as temperatures in Košice in July can reach 30–35°C. But also pack layers, as nights can get chilly!
