When Tosokchon opened, it ran a buy-one-get-one soju special. Mike and Katie took full advantage – three visits in one week. After the third trip, they said "I love you" for the first time. Homey, comforting Korean food. Order the haenae tang (Mike’s fav), soondae guk / kalguksu (Katie’s favs) and seafood pancake.
Late nights after birthday parties and nights out with friends, Katie and Mike inevitably end up here at midnight for their fourth meal of the day. They always sit at the bar where the same kind Japanese man has been serving them for years. Order the spicy intestine hot pot (trust them, it's incredible) and a Sapporo on draft.
Katie and Mike shared their first kiss after walking up the run path from West Village to Hudson Yards on a romantic summer night. For you runners (and casual walkers) we recommend starting from the Hudson River Greenway at 72nd and making your way down to the southern tip of Manhattan for ~6 miles of scenic views.
Katie and Mike's early summers revolved around 9-man volleyball. After Katie finished practice at Seward Park, she'd grab food from Wu's next door and carry it across Chinatown to Mike's practice at Columbus Park. We recommend the salt and pepper pork chop (Mike's fav) and the roast pork/duck over rice (Katie's fav).
Katie and Mike actually spent 90% of their first year of dating in Jersey City. During this time, the Sichuan food at Peppercorn Station became a staple. Order the sautéed pea shoots, beef in sour pickle soup, and dry chili fried chicken. When you need to walk off the bloat, head toward Exchange Place along the water – the New York skyline view here is better than Brooklyn's.
