HOW WE MET

September 2, 2017

Kolyse had moved to Augusta in May 2017 to start PA school, and had been looking for a church to attend. After trying 4 churches, the 5th one she walked into was Warren Baptist Church. She knew almost instantly that this was where she was meant to be. She was talked into joining the College and 20s Ministry for a Fall retreat Labor Day weekend (7 days after meeting all these new people). She came on the fall retreat, and that Saturday (9.2.17) she met Kyle Caver. Her first thought was "Wow, he's so tall". She somehow started talking with him, and discovered immediately how kind he was. He welcomed her into the friend group and included her in conversations, constantly making her laugh. Later that day, when he was going on a hiking trip up the mountain, Kolyse made sure to join. They talked nonstop the whole climb up and down, for about 3 hours. By the end of the weekend, Kolyse and Kyle rode back sitting next to each other on the church van. They quickly became very good friends, and could not seem to stop smiling whenever they were around each other.

THE PROPOSAL

2.29.20

The day started with Kyle taking me shopping, and patiently waiting while I tried on dresses . When I went to buy one, he asked if I was sure I liked it numerous times. I insisted that I did, and he bought it for me to wear on our date night that evening. After a day of shopping, he took me home and said I really needed to start practicing painting my nails so they would be ready when he eventually proposed. I laughed and agreed to indulge him so it wouldn’t be obvious I knew when he was going to do it. He *attempted* to help me, before our dinner reservation at Di Vino, a cute little Italian restaurant in Hammonds Ferry. After a candlelit dinner, we walked to the truck and he put an address into the GPS. I assumed we were heading out to the lake for stargazing, one of our favorite date nights. On the way out, he missed our normal turn to the park. My immediate thought was “haha, wow just like our first date”. Then I realized, “WOW. JUST like our first date….” Surely he wouldn’t be proposing tonight. But we kept singing and talking about how pretty the sky was until we pulled up to some lake property we’ve gone camping with our church group at. We pulled down to the waterfront, got out of the truck, and he came around and wrapped me in a hug. We stood there looking up at the sky and talked about our first date out here in September, the last 2 years, and how much we loved each other. He started talking more, and walked away from me to bend down and pick up something from the ground. Hitting a switch, lights suddenly came on over the ground and up into the trees. He pulled me into the center of the lights, knelt down, and asked me to spend the rest of our lives chasing adventure together and said “Will you marry me?”
