MARCH 26, 2017 Nicole and James read together at a callback audition for a play premiering that June at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. But not before James crawled out of the tech booth, having wrangled the theater lights into working order. They read their scene, then Nicole had dash away to the faraway land of Orange County for a different callback audition. Meanwhile, their mutual friend, Joey, sat in the theater lobby awaiting his turn to read for a role. Neither James nor Nicole (or Joey) booked the parts that day. But apparently the people who did started dating and are now married, so it all worked out for the best. OCTOBER 3, 2017 It was the first day of rehearsals for Richard II (no, not the one with the hunchbacked, Machiavellian schemer, the OTHER Richard). And during a break, James and Nicole recognized each other. “Did you have a mustache about six months ago?” asked Nicole. “I did!” replied James. “I think we read together at that one audition! Did you have to shimmy out of the booth?” “I did! NOVEMBER 3, 2017 James asked Nicole out for drinks after rehearsal. She said yes, and later that night they went to Edendale in Silver Lake for some beers. Among other topics, their mutual friend Joey came up in conversation. And then, as if they had summoned him, Joey walked into the bar. He greeted his two friends, promptly read the room, and left them alone for the rest of the night. OCTOBER 3, 2026 Nicole and James are getting married, with Joey as their officiant.
