Best way to get Malaysian (RM) currency

We suggest if you're stopping at KL airport, to get maybe 200RM out of an ATM there (the exchange booth will be rip off). Then, if you need more money when you're here, either use ATMs on the island (which should have better rate than airport ATMs), or convert cash at an exchange stall. You can pay by card at most bigger places, but small bars shops may prefer cash... I've personally never heard of places here accepting USD cash like other countries like say Vietnam
Question

What if I want to give a wedding gift?

Answer

Firstly, for those who are flying in... YOU ARE OUR WEDDING GIFT! Please don't go through extra trouble. But for those of you who insist or are lucky enough to be living in Penang, know that money in chinese hongbaos or cards would be much appreciated. And we have also included a Target registry for those who prefer sending gifts! If possible, please don't bring physical gifts to Penang... Sorry, it just could be a nightmare bringing everything back with us!

Question

What if I have questions when I'm there?

Answer

When you're in Penang, if you have questions about anything non-wedding related, you'll be able to contact my dad (Peter Knox), whose number will be posted closer to the time. When the wedding is happening... please feel free to ask any bridesmaid or groomsman!

Question

Should I get a Malaysian simcard?

Answer

We'd say "Yes". It's cheap to get a temp sim, and we suggest U mobile or Digi - just remember to check if the 4G works everywhere! You will also find sim card stalls at Penang Airport on your way to baggage claim if you want to quickly grab one as you arrive.
