This is one of Kmo's FAVORITE spots to run in the city. As one of the oldest urban hike and bike paths in Texas, the trail is over 10 miles long and makes a complete circuit around Lady Bird Lake. More of a water person than a land animal? You're in luck! You can rent paddle boards, kayaks and canoes to take out on for some pretty unforgettable views of the city.
This cool tucked-away street was not around when Kmo was in college, but has become a favorite destination when visiting! These renovated houses turned into bungalow bars provide for the perfect atmosphere for a day or night out strolling from bar to food trailer. Pups and children are encouraged!
6th Street is legendary and distinctly Austin. Not only does it have a colorful and bustling variety of bars, restaurants, and music venues, it will provide some quality opportunities for people watching and getting a taste of Austin's character. Some of Kmo's favorite spots on the "Dirty East" side are: Shakespeare's Pub, Maggie Mae's, and The Blind Pig. On the slightly more upscale "West 6th," Kmo recommends: Kung Foo Saloon, The Dogwood, and Irene's. However, since her memory may have a time stamp on it, here is a reputable "Eater" article that probably has more valid opinions on where to eat and drink on East 6th Street: https://austin.eater.com/2017/6/16/15821888/best-bars-dirty-sixth-austin-where-to-drink As for West 6th, Katie did not frequent there due to her very shallow pockets in college, so here is another reputable source: https://austinot.com/guide-west-sixth-street-austin-texas Bottom line: There are a bajillion bars and restaurants to choose from downtown!
Home to popular ACL music festival, this park is well known to locals and visitors alike. It is the perfect spot to bring a group of friends to play sports, have a picnic, check out the botanical garden or nature preserve, or chill and read a book.
Check out Katie's alma mater right in the heart of the city! Across the street from campus on Guadalupe Street ("The Drag") is full of shops, restaurants, and bars to stop in. Katie's favorite spots are: - Kerbey Lane Cafe (for breakfast!) - Cain & Abel's (Try the Texas Tea!) - Tyler's (for an official "Keep Austin Weird" shirt or Chris' favorite ACL shirt) - University Co-Op (for all your University of Texas needs)
