How We Met

“Souls cross ages like clouds cross skies, an’ tho’ a cloud’s shape nor hue nor size don’t stay the same, it’s still a cloud an’ so is a soul.” - “Zachry Bailey” in Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.

Abby and Connor met in college at Marquette University. Connor was majoring in Biomedical Engineering with an emphasis in Biomechanics. Abby had just transferred from Viterbo University and changed her major from Biology to Accounting. While attending the university’s organization festival looking for club soccer, Abby was intercepted by Club Quidditch and “decided” to try out. Little did she know that decision allowed her to meet her future husband. That first semester Abby and Connor played on the team together, traveled to Florida for the Quidditch Nationals tournament, and never actually held a full conversation together. Abby thought Connor was weird while Connor thought Abby was quiet. They finished their semesters and went to their hometowns of Green Bay and Sheboygan for the summer. One summer, a trip to Italy, and countless hours working in a cardboard box factory later, they re-met at a Quidditch toga party. At the toga party the two finally held a full conversation together for the very first time. Now this conversation wasn’t just any conversation – it was a marathon of a conversation that lasted the entire night. The two discussed many topics and Abby felt butterflies in the pit of her stomach. Connor, on the other hand, was a typical college boy – completely dense and unaware of a woman’s attempt at flirting. And unfortunately, that was that and the two went their own way. Little did Abby know; Connor actually couldn’t stop thinking about her after that night and he started to realize he wanted to talk to her more. Fortunately, on one fateful night he ran into her outside of Mikey’s Bar on Jackson Street (RIP). Connor was walking to a friend’s apartment from Real Chili when he ran into Abby outside of the bar as she was there helping some friends home from dollar bomb night. They locked eyes and everything stood still for a moment. They said hello and went back to their friends. That moment is what led Connor to message Abby. This one message led to thousands of messages, a couple of study nights together, and Connor’s request for a first date. Abby said yes. The two went on their first date to Smoke Shack for a BBQ dinner and Shakers Cigar Bar for a haunted bar tour. The two started dating, got engaged during a pandemic, and now here we are – finally looking forward to the wedding! Whenever there is a wedding, many people may wonder how the couple would describe the love they share for one another. Some will say love is like having a best friend for a partner. Others will say love is not being able to breathe when the other isn’t there. Connor and Abby believe there is more to it. Love can be many things; however, what it really comes down to is the bond one shares with the other. Some bonds are only for a moment while others last many lifetimes. While the two have only been together for five years, they have always felt like they knew each other for much longer. They believe their love spans across many lifetimes. That when two souls are born and reborn, they renew their bonds to one another throughout time. Connor and Abby feel this in every ounce of their being and hope that everyone can experience the bond they share one day. They are very excited to celebrate their love and experience the beginning of the rest of their life with all those who hold a piece of their heart.
