One February afternoon at a high school drama event, John happened to sit next to a girl named Kirsten. After a few months of awkward flirting and late-night conversations, he asked her to prom with an a cappella rendition of "Dance with Me" by Orleans, with the help of his trusty groomsman Riley. They danced that night away – May 12, 2012. They spent a lot of the next few years apart. Kirsten went off to college at USD a year before John went to USC, and they decided to go their separate ways before finding each other again, 2 years later. They both studied abroad at different times, Kirsten in Florence and John in Edinburgh. But through it all, they waited, looking forward to those weekends when they could board the Amtrak Surfliner and ride it along the golden coast to meet up in San Diego. After all those years, they both landed jobs in Irvine, where they spent the next few years working, visiting friends in LA and San Diego, frequenting their local tiki bar, and taking trips to national parks. Until one day, when John gave her a small box with a ring. They chose May 14, 2022 – almost 10 years to the day after their high school prom. A few months of wedding planning later, they moved one more time, to a small apartment in the heart of San Diego's Little Italy district. This is where you can find them now, sitting out on their balcony over India Street, smelling the pasta and planning their wedding.
