It all started with a dozen chocolate cupcakes. "What are these cupcakes for?" "Joel's birthday?" "Who is Joel?" Joel raised his hand. "Do you live here?" "Yes?" "Oh. Sorry"
Joel took Kelli out for dinner at Outback Steakhouse. The ride was quiet and uncertain. Half an hour into the drive, Joel realized something very important... they were going the wrong way! After breaking the news and the ice, they turned around and made it to the right place just in time for a late dinner. Before returning to the dorm, the pair took a detour to The Randall Environmental Center to stargaze. Under the stars and the full moon, Joel and Kelli danced in the parking lot. Taking a break they sat on the bumper of Joel's car and pointed out the constellations they knew. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" asked Kelli, leaning closer. Joel was, in fact, thinking what she was thinking but in a moment of panic instead of saying yes, he said "I think you look like a pale alien in the moonlight". Not what she was expecting... Just a moment later, Joel mustered up the courage to kiss her. It was the first kiss for both of them, and everything was perfect.
It was raining. It rained for two days straight and that threw a hitch in Joel's plan to recreate the evening under the stars from his first date with Kelli. But not even the downpour could dampen that night. The couple arrived at The Saddle Room and sat down at a table in the back. Out of the corner of her eye, Kelli saw the curtains move and she knew what was about to happen. Shaking, Joel reached out for Kelli's hand and began to tell her all the reasons he loved her. Ok it's happening, we're doing this, Kelli thought. Joel's mouth kept moving and she realized she couldn't hear what he was saying. "Wait!" she said. "I want to remember this, just hold on and let me get it together..." They laughed, nervous and excited "Ok, continue." "There's something I want to ask you," Joel said reaching for he pocket. "Then you better get off that chair and onto one knee, mister!" Joel made his way around the table and dropped to his knee, bringing him down to Kelli's eye level. "Will you marry me?" he asked, ring box in hand. "Are you going to open it?" she asked back. Yes!
