Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Kitri Doepker and Vrajesh Patel
I know what you're thinking: "But it always rains in Seattle. Why would I want to go there?" Wrong! Summer in Seattle is where it is at! It is sunny and warm without ever being overly hot. Summer in Seattle has to be good-- it's what makes all us Seattlites suffer through the 8 solid months of rain every winter. Take this excuse to see Seattle at its finest. If you're not sure what to do to keep busy, here are a few ideas from a couple of Seattlites.
Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market

Pike Place and Pike St, Seattle, WA 98101

Locals and visitors alike will always enjoy a stroll down Seattle's famous outdoor market. Pick up some local produce, eat some freshly made mini-doughnuts, buy random tacky souvenirs, watch dead fish being tossed several yards for no reason, spend an hour in line for a cup of coffee (that tastes like every other coffee) from the first ever Starbucks. Whatever you're in to. When you get thirsty, stop in at Rachel's Ginger Beer for refreshment (a particular favorite of Kitri's).

Seattle Center

Seattle Center

305 Harrison Street, Seattle, WA 98109

There's a lot going on in the Seattle City Center. Wander down, see the Space Needle up close, listen to some street musicians, visit the Museum of Pop Culture, eat some good food at one of the many Lower Queen Anne restaurants, take the kiddos to the Pacific Science Center, or a personal favorite, check out the Chihuly Glass Garden.

Woodland Park Zoo

Woodland Park Zoo

5500 Phinney Avenue North, Seattle, WA 98103

Fun for the kids and for the adults, Woodland Park Zoo is among the top ranking zoos in the country, and well worth a visit. Fun fact: before vet school, Kitri worked here as a Goat Socializer. That's right. Be jealous.

Gas Works Park

Gas Works Park

North Northlake Way, Seattle, WA 98103

Formerly a gas plant for Seattle Gas Light Company, Gas Works Park is a great place to wander on a sunny day, enjoy a view of the city skyline, take photos, or even fly a kite with a bunch of Seattle hipsters.

Seattle Art Museum

Seattle Art Museum

1300 1st Avenue, Seattle, WA 98101

Okay... sometimes it does rain in Seattle. In case you find yourself in need of some indoor entertainment, consider the Seattle Art Museum. If you are still around on the Thursday after the wedding, the first Thursday of the month is always free admission!

Alki Beach

Alki Beach

Alki Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116

Jonesing for some beach time? Take a water taxi over to Alki beach for a little play in the water with a view of the city skyline and a street full of good food, ice cream, cafes, and shops. Build a beach fire in one of the fire pits and watch the sunset.

Sky View Observatory - Columbia Center

Sky View Observatory - Columbia Center

700 4th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104

Skip going to the top of the Space Needle. You'll get a better aerial view of the area from the observation deck on the 73rd floor of Columbia Tower for a third of the cost of the Space Needle. And your view will actually include the Space Needle. Or if you're on an even tighter budget, head up to the Starbucks on the 40th floor and enjoy the view for just the cost of a cup o' joe.

Mailbox Peak Trail

Mailbox Peak Trail

Mailbox Peak Trail, North Bend, WA 98045

Feeling a little more adventurous? Not a city person? Consider a hike to the spot where Vrajesh proposed to Kitri. 9.4 miles long with 4000 ft of elevation gain, this hike is pretty grueling. But the view from the top is so so so worth it. And who knows what you will find in that mailbox once you get up there!

For all the days along the way
