The Wedding Website of Kitri Doepker and Vrajesh Patel
Question

So... is this going to be an Indian wedding or an American wedding?

Answer

Both...? Neither...? We debated for a long time about whether we wanted to do a traditional Indian ceremony. In the end, we decided that we didn't want to spend a two hour ceremony in which we weren't free to actually spend time with the people who had come to see us. Consequently, we decided to keep this wedding very informal and non-traditional. We will have a very short ceremony that will take inspiration from both Indian and American traditions. At the end of the day, we just want a party to celebrate and catch up with all the people we love the most in the world. And if you are reading this, that's you!

Question

What do you mean by "Indian dress encouraged"?

Answer

Kitri and Vrajesh will both be in Indian clothing for the wedding. We encourage our guests to wear Indian clothes as well (regardless of your ethnicity-- we promise, no one will scoff at you for cultural appropriation here). There is a wide variety of clothing that is acceptable at Indian weddings, and you can certainly ask either Vrajesh or Kitri if you need help finding something to wear or somewhere to shop. There are some stores in the Seattle area for locals and some online stores that we can recommend (though online clothes are not always the best quality). If you are nervous that you might wear something incorrectly, don't; you probably will wear it wrong, but so will I. Luckily, Vrajesh has a lot of cousins who we can enlist for help in making sure you are looking sharp on the day, and I promise they will only make fun of you a little. If you are not comfortable wearing traditional Indian dress, that's okay. Most of all, we just want everyone to be at ease and have fun!

Question

Can I bring the kids?

Answer

Children are welcome to join in the festivities. Please do bring them along to the welcome BBQ-- they will have so much fun playing in the river! Regarding the wedding, however, please be aware that our wedding venue is a liquor distillery and there is a fair amount of mischief they could get into. It is your responsibility as parents to keep an eye on your kids and keep them out of any trouble at all times. In light of this, we think you might have more fun taking a night off from the kids. Keep us apprised of your plans. We have not, at this time, made arrangements for a kids' menu (though that may change should we find a lot of younglings are coming), so you might want to have a plan b food option in the event that Indian food isn't their cup of tea.
