Our First Date

01.14.16

Kirsti's Story... Our first date took place at Batch Brewery in Detroit. It was my first day of work at a new job in downtown Detroit and Trent was downtown attending the Detroit Auto Show. After 8 hours that didn't seem to go by fast enough we met at a local brewery. Of course Trent was first to arrive, as I have a punctuality problem and also was taking a few extra minutes to calm my nerves. It was my first blind date so I made sure to quickly text my best friend to give her the details of where I was, who I was meeting, and to call the police if she didn't hear from me (Safety First!). As I was about to walk in my phone buzzed and a text appeared "TRENTON: Did you dye your hair blonde?"... I opened the door and to my surprise I saw my date approaching a cute blonde at the bar. Trent quickly realized it wasn't me and turned to greet me instead; this should have been my first clue of just how quirky he can be. We sat at the picnic style bench of the trendy brewery talking, laughing, and sharing stories for over 5 hours. We both knew there was something special about one another after that night. The next day I canceled another date I had scheduled knowing I couldn't meet anyone better for me than this goofy guy and Trent made a bet with a co-worker that he was going to marry me one day. To our surprise this was the beginning of our forever.

The Proposal

07.01.17

Trent's story... Let me set the picture: We were in Washington visiting my friend Bradley and my family over the 4th of July weekend. When thinking of where I wanted to ask Kirsti to marry me the picture perfect Colchuck Lake came first to mind. It is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains in a part of Washington called “The Enchantments”. While the lake isn't easy to get to and requires a 4 mile hike going up over 2,000 feet I knew it was the perfect place to propose. On July 1, 2017 the weather was perfect and our day started with a trip to Pike's Place before hitting the road for our hike. We headed to the mountains a little later that I had planned and we didn’t get to the trail-head until close to 4pm. The sunlight was slowly dimming and the smart thing to do at this point was to skip the hike, but I couldn’t wait another day to propose. With all the anticipation building inside me the hike seemed to take forever. We finally made it to the lake and I took a few extra minutes to find the perfect view. With everything set I went to my camera bag to get the ring and placed the ring box in my pocket while Kirsti was looking at the view. The moment I’d been planning in my head for months and looking forward to for my entire life was finally here! I got down on one knee, pull out the ring box, and slide it open. As I looked up at Kirsti’s face, taking in everything, my mind went blank and I just looked at her so happy and overwhelmed by the emotion on her face. I didn’t say anything… I just kept staring at her knowing she’s going to be my wife. Eventually she said “You have to say something...” so I fumble some words together, eventually getting out “Will you marry me?” Of course she said yes and the rest for me is a blur of happiness and excitement.
