Kirsten and Brandon met in their third year at the University of Victoria. UVIC structures the business school into cohorts for each semester and in their third year, Brandon and Kirsten were in the same cohort and had every class together. Additionally, they were assigned to sit next to each other in two classes! Brandon asked Kirsten out to dinner at Cactus Club downtown Victoria in November of 2015 and they've been together ever since. Their relationship saw them live in multiple cities both together and long distance, including Victoria (BC), Kelowna (BC), Copenhagen (Denmark), Rouen (France), Vancouver (BC), and Calgary (AB).

Brandon proposed to Kirsten on a Sunday afternoon in April. Her best friend Jennifer was Brandon's accomplice and she made sure to get Kirsten out of the house. Kirsten thought Brandon had left for work that morning but instead he camped out at the grocery store until she was gone. He then went home and disabled the ring doorbell cameras so that she wouldn't see what he was up to. He cleaned the house and picked up champagne, snacks, and flowers. When Kirsten got home, the first thing she noticed was that the house was spotless (how amazing!!). She saw Brandon outside in the backyard with flowers and their cat Malibu. Kirsten joined Brandon and Malibu in the backyard and Brandon got down on one knee and proposed. They ended the evening going to one of Calgary's nicest restaurants and then got ice cream. It was a perfect, intimate proposal for just the two of them.
