We met at the tail end of one of Kelby's internships, in Austin during SXSW. She’s a year younger and was graduating in a few weeks, and Kirby was attending SXSW on behalf of his company. Kelby was trying to network but Kirby was busy following her around like a puppy dog. He used one of the absolute cheesiest opening lines known to man, but miraculously it didn’t seem to matter – "Your hands are cold. I'm Canadian, let me warm them up!" When Kirby's co-workers decided to leave the party, they asked if Kelby and her friends wanted to join them. Kelby, not wanting to miss the opportunity to hang with some high-level advertising folks from NYC, immediately agreed. Kirby's co-worker played wingman, eventually leading the two out onto the porch at The Four Seasons hotel. That's where the two shared their first (tipsy) kiss and exchanged numbers. Kelby left thinking she'd probably never see Kirby again, but hoping maybe she'd still get a job offer in New York. Kirby left thinking he couldn't stand to not see Kelby again. He texted her the next day and asked to take her on a date the next time she visited New York. Kelby moved to the city about a month after graduating and the two started dating almost immediately (one drunken night over pizza they decided to call a spade a spade). Kirby proposed in Astoria Park (near their apartment in Astoria) on March 10th, the 4-year anniversary of the day they met, that night in Austin.
