The Wedding Website of Kira Lee and Lucas Dorow
We've tried to address a few basic questions people may have. We will be providing more details to everyone before the trip! If any questions come up at any time, feel free to reach out to Kira at (920) 202-6176.
Question

Is Guatemala safe?

Answer

Yes!! We have been to a number of foreign countries and Guatemala was one of the countries we felt safest in. Like with many countries abroad, there are small regions where it is best not to visit, but we will be spending our time in the two most visited areas of Guatemala, hours away from these areas, where it is completely safe. While it is always good to use common sense when traveling abroad, such as exploring in groups and not going out late at night alone, we found the people of Guatemala to be extremely kind and welcoming to tourists.

Question

What if I cannot make it to Guatemala?

Answer

No worries! We understand that it is a big commitment to take time off and join us in another country. We will also be having a local celebration in Kaukauna in late summer 2026!

Question

What day should we fly in?

Answer

We recommend you fly in Saturday, January 17th so that you can join us for our casual welcome dinner and have time to relax before the wedding festivities.

Question

What day should we fly home?

Answer

You have options! If you are just joining us for the wedding (no add on activities), we'd suggest you book your return flight for Tuesday, January 20th. If you are joining us in Lake Atitlan before returning home, we'd recommend you book your return flight for Friday, January 23rd. If you are planning to endure the volcano hike with us, we will be flying home on Sunday, January 25th.

Question

What is the currency used in Guatemala?

Answer

Quetzales. You can get this exchanged at most banks in the US beforehand. If you are joining us in Lake Atitlán we strongly advise bringing some along, and it can also come in handy in Antigua (though they more commonly accept credit cards). We will reach out before the trip with a suggestion on how much Quetzales you may want to bring. If you are interested in determining the conversion between Quetzales and USD, a good app to download for your phone is My Currency Converter.

Question

Will there be accomodations for my dietary restrictions?

Answer

Yes! Both Antigua and Lake Atitlan are known for having a wide variety of delicious vegetarian, vegan, and other food options. There is actually a village on Lake Atitlan that can be reached by a short boat ride which is very holistic focused, and the majority of the restaurants in this town are vegan!
