In late 2016, groomsman Ben told Josh to try a new dating app. Josh was highly stressed-out trying to establish himself in two new jobs, and thus assumed that nobody with whom he became involved would hold any serious value in his schedule. Similarly, Kinsey was beginning to navigate her new life in St. Cloud, with the new demands of a highly rigorous Master’s Program, and no nearby friends or family outside her program’s cohort. These people became her family, pouring their sweat and time into their studies. Even with these wonderful people in her life, she felt the need to meet a new face after 12 hours a day spent with the same group week after week. Josh only matched with one person on the dating app...and Kinsey was waiting to pounce. A few days later, they met in person at a local restaurant. They chatted over beers and fried calamari, and decided they wanted to meet each other again. However, Christmas was rapidly approaching; Kinsey and Josh thought that if they didn’t meet before leaving town for their respective Christmas obligations, they would inevitably end up letting this simmering romance die. The next evening, Josh had the first major choral concert dress rehearsal of his career. He invited Kinsey to pop by the end of the rehearsal, and then they could go out for some food afterward. Kinsey walked into the dark, empty church and heard the angelic voices of boys singing Christmas carols. She was in awe. Fast forward two years: Josh invited Kinsey to the dress rehearsal for that same choral concert in December of 2018, under the pretense of going out to dinner for her birthday afterward. With the help of the Boys’ Choir, Josh approached Kinsey during the swell of the final verse of his favorite Christmas song, got down on one knee, held out the ring....and forgot to ask the question. After an awkward fifteen seconds of silence, Josh mouthed the words, Kinsey said yes, and the singers all cheered.
