The namesake of our beloved little man, this Midtown spot is perfect for literally any occasion. The Goose Sandie (a cold Italian-style sub) is objectively the best sandwich in the city, the Oklahoma Smashie is Jonathan's favorite burger in town, and if you're down to get a little messy, their Whirligig (hot honey fried chicken) is always on Kinsey's mind.
Ma Der Lao constantly receives "best in the country" awards and honestly? That's absolutely correct. If you've never had Laotian food, prepare to be become a die-hard fan for life. Chef Jeff's crispy rice salad is the perfect way to kick things off, and the sausage, beef skewers, and catfish will absolutely blow your mind. Family-style hive rise up!
If you're in the market for brunch, it doesn't get much better than this. Their classed-up comfort food is reasonably priced and generously portioned (their delicious omelette comes with any three fillings), they might have the best croissant in town, and they're the only great brunch place that takes reservations!
We want you to know that this is the best Italian restaurant that we have ever been to. The vibes are immaculate and the food is extraordinary. Start things off with the focaccia, chase it with rigatoni and spicy cavatelli (add meatballs and stracciatella respectively), and have your life changed by a side of grilled zucchini (just trust us). From the house-made pasta to the complimentary prosecco, this place is perfect.
Oklahoma City has a thriving Asian district anchored by a large Vietnamese community, and this laid-back eatery is a great place to scratch the surface! Whether you've never had pho or are a card-carrying pho-natic, VII Asian Bistro is our comfort place.
This Neapolitan pizza restaurant is the crowd pleaser to end all crowd pleasers. Great for any occasion, everything on the menu is delicious (special mentions to their fried Brussels sprouts and their Gusto Pepperoni pie) and the signature cocktails are a real highlight. Make sure you ask what the pizza and pasta specials are—they change every week and are always exactly as yummy as they sound.
Looking to read, work, and/or have some delicious pastries? This sunlit cafe has high-quality bottomless drip coffee, yummy knife-and-fork sandwiches (check out the Giovanni or the Harvey Club), and some of the best pastries in town. However, they're closed on Sundays and the line gets diabolically long during the breakfast/lunch rushes; we recommend checking them out in the late morning or late afternoon.
Need some reading material for the trip back home? We recommend getting it from Oklahoma's largest—and coziest—independent bookstore. Although Jonathan can sometimes be spotted slinging books behind the counter, we hope that the natural wood, rolling ladders, and labyrinthian layout are enough to convince you that we genuinely aren't biased.
