This bridge used to be a part of Route 66, and is now a 1-mile bike/pedestrian bridge over the Mississippi River. Keep an eye out for the 100-year-old water intake houses in the middle of the river. Parking is only on the Illinois side, in Granite City.
This is our favorite climbing gym in (well, just out of) town. Boulders, lead walls, and auto-belays. While you're there, check out the quaint downtown St Charles, and the first Missouri Capitol. Their downtown site (The Power Plant) is much easier to get to, but has more limited climbing.
For a truly unique experience that leaves you wondering "how much does this place pay in liability insurance?", check out the City Museum. Half jungle gym, half industrial art installation, this is a must-see that your kids will never forget.
