Things To Do

Welcome to the Shenandoah Valley Wine Country! Lining the western border of Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley has inspired generations of travelers who have been drawn to its natural beauty. Today, an array of bucolic hamlets dot this fertile region, offering an abundance of dining opportunities, relaxing getaways, and some of the best wine in the east. Charlottesville is famous for Shenandoah National Park and its many beautiful hikes and waterfalls, Monticello the home of Thomas Jefferson, its vineyards (there are more than 35 wineries within a 30-mile radius of Charlottesville as part of the Monticello Wine Trail), distilleries, breweries, farm-to-table restaurants, music, and so much more! We are soo beyond excited to share some of our favorite things to do in Charlottesville while you are visiting and we hope that you make a relaxing vacation out of your trip to Charlottesville to enjoy all that it has to offer :)
Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park

VA
(540) 999-3500

A national park right in our backyard! About a 30-minute drive from Charlottesville, and so many beautiful hikes. Definitely, a must-see while visiting.

Whiteoak Canyon Trail

Whiteoak Canyon Trail

Whiteoak Canyon Trail, Syria, VA

One of our favorite hikes to take visitors in Shenandoah National Park because of all the beautiful water features and waterfall swimming hole. There is an easy ~2 mile out and back and a harder ~8-10 mile loop.

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards

Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards

5022 Plank Road, North Garden, VA 22959
, (434) 202-8063

A must-visit culinary vineyard that overlooks the Shenandoah mountains. The veranda seating is very popular and books out way in advance. Make a reservation on Resy for about 1 month in advance if you really want to go and sit on the veranda. You don't need a reservation to sit out on the grass. The food is farm to table and the wine is delicious. Our favorite red wine is the Easton Blue.

Monticello

Monticello

931 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Charlottesville, VA 22902
, (434) 984-9800

It goes without being said that when in Charlottesville, you definitely need to visit Monticello, the home of one of the founders of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson.

Public Fish & Oyster

Public Fish & Oyster

513 West Main Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903
, (434) 995-5542

Our favorite spot for our favorite New England Oysters

Stinson Vineyards

Stinson Vineyards

4744 Sugar Hollow Road, Crozet, VA 22932
, (434) 823-7300

One of the first vineyards Andrew and I visited and it's beautiful, smaller than other vineyards but very charming. A great day in C-Ville would be to hike the Sugar Hollow Trail to Blue Hole (easy ~2 mile roundtrip hike), go swimming in the blue hole, and then hit up Stinson Vineyard afterwards for a glass of wine (right next to the hike).

Chiles Peach Orchard and Farm Market

Chiles Peach Orchard and Farm Market

1351 Greenwood Road, Crozet, VA 22932
, (434) 823-1583

If you love peaches as much as we do and you've never been to a peach farm, you have to go to Chiles! Don't forget to get the peach soft serve ice cream and donuts :)

Keswick Vineyards

Keswick Vineyards

1575 Keswick Winery Drive, Keswick, VA 22947
, (434) 244-3341

We took our parents to this Vinyard the first time they visited C-Ville.

Carter Mountain Orchard and Country Store

Carter Mountain Orchard and Country Store

1435 Carters Mountain Trail, Charlottesville, VA 22902
, (434) 977-1833

Famous for their cider and some of the best views of Charlottesville, and definitely the best place to catch the sunset.

Rivanna River

Rivanna River

Charlottesville, VA

One of our favorite things to do in C-vill in the summer is float down the Rivanna river!! Take two cars. Leave one car at Riverside Park, then drive to Darden Towe park and float down the Rivanna river from Darden Towe to Riverside (~2-3 hour float depending on water speed).

Downtown Mall

Downtown Mall

Charlottesville, VA 22902

Stroll down the downtown mall, grab a cup of coffee and a pastry from Petite Marie Bette, or a drink at the Whiskey Jar, the Fitzroy, or Tonic, treat yourself to some ice cream or gelato, eat out on the patio at one of the many restaurants.
