What is the dress code for the wedding?

Answer

Vineyard Formal -- Suits/blazers or dresses/formal jumpsuits and heels for women. We encourage bright colors (pink, green light blue, peach), and florals. We recommend hats/sunglasses if it's going to be sunny. Consider wearing linen, silks or other loose breathable fabrics as it will likely be hot!

Are Andrew and Kimia also going to have a wedding in Iran?

Answer

Yes! Kimia has a huge family in Iran including her grandmother, 4 uncles, 5 aunts, 35+ first cousins, and second cousins. Unfortunately, Iranians cannot easily get visas to come to America, so the couple will be having a second celebration overseas, hopefully in 2023.

What's special about jazz?

Andrew and Kimia's first date was at Wally's Jazz club in Boston, MA, and that is where they fell head over heels for each other. Andrew also grew up playing the saxophone and jazz is very near and dear to his heart. To them, jazz is a symbol of romance.

What’s the weather like in Charlottesville in August

Answer

It’s a beautiful time of year but the chance of our wedding day being warm and humid is high. We recommend guests stick to light or bright colors, cool fabrics, and loose clothing to be as comfortable as possible. A summer hat or sunglasses for the ceremony is a good idea, but the reception tent will be shaded. We also have covered options for the ceremony if rain is in the forecast.

What is the Market at Grelen wedding venue like?

Set on Grelen Nursery's 1000-acre tree nursery, The Market at Grelen is a magical wedding venue boasting rural simplicity at it’s most luxurious! It has gorgeous 360-degree views and was lovingly designed to emphasize the surrounding natural beauty. It has a reception tent for the wedding as well as a stone terrace, a green house, and beautiful views.

Will there be an indoor part of the wedding?

Answer

No, the wedding will be 100% outdoors. The reception tent is fully covered and shaded. There are covered and shaded options for the ceremony and cocktail hour areas as well in case of inclement weather (fingers crossed!)

Do we need to take the bus transportation on Saturday? And will there be an early bus back?

Answer

We will have enough space on the bus for about 90% of wedding guests and highly highly recommend that everyone takes the bus for a few reasons. The drive to and from the venue is 40 minutes each way, there is no service there to order a taxi or Uber, and we really want our guests to party and have a good time and have a secured ride back into town. The buses will depart downtown Charlottesville at 3:15 PM and will arrive at the venue at 4:00 PM. After the wedding the buses will depart at 11:00 PM and will arrive back in downtown Charlottesville at 11:45 PM. We won’t have an early bus, so if for some reason you think you might have to leave the wedding early than it might be a good idea to drive. But we really hope that all of our guests will dance the night away with us until the very end of the night.

What is the dress code for the rehearsal dinner and welcome party Friday night?

Answer

Cocktail attire! Little black dresses, cocktail dresses, heels for women. Blazers or button down shirts for men (ties and suits optional). Please do not wear jeans, shorts, tee shirts, or sandals for men.

What kind of residencies are Andrew and Kimia in?

Starting in July, Andrew will be a 3rd-year general surgery resident and Kimia will be a 3rd-year anesthesiology resident.
