If there's one outdoor thing you need to see while in Savannah, you have to see Forsyth Park! The iconic white fountain graces the middle of Forsyth Park, and a fragrance garden and satellite café of the Collin's Quarter is a nice place for quick eats. Enjoy a walk around the park, and take in Savannah's beautiful architecture. (And no, the bench from Forrest Gump isn't there!)
Land-locked friends, rejoice! Spend a day or two or five visiting the beach! Tybee Island hosts a plethora of fun events (including SCAD's Sand Arts Festival), and is much more relaxing than nearby Hilton Head. Enjoy some fresh seafood from the ocean-side restaurants and soak up the sun.
When it doubt, get ice cream! Leopold's is a Savannah classic and if you love ice cream it's a must-eat! Just maybe get a single scoop - they're giant and delicious! Leopold's is also owned by a Hollywood producer and his film posters hang in the ice cream parlor.
Did you know Kim used to volunteer at Bonaventure Cemetery's Visitor Center while she went to SCAD? It's true! Visit the beautiful Historic Area along the banks of the Wilmington River and see why Bonaventure was coveted as a final resting place. Famous folks such as singer Johnny Mercer and Poet-Laureate Conrad Aiken; don't forget to visit Little Gracie for her beautiful sculpture carved from an actual photo of her in 1889.
Discover Savannah's romantic charm on River Street and Bay Street, and the new Plant Riverside District. Enjoy fancy hotels, shopping, historic buildings and some of the steepest historic stairs you've ever seen in this historic area! We recommend Vinnie Van GoGo's for cheap pizza in nearby City Market if you're looking for snacks.
This little hole-in-the-wall museum is full of model ships crafted in incredible detail. It's easy to spend an afternoon just looking at them all! It's a relatively inexpensive museum to visit and is worth the trip if model ships interest you.
Calling all history buffs! Fort Pulaski was active during the Civil War and helped Union soldiers force the Confederates inside of the fort to surrender. There are remnants of cannonballs hitting the sides of the fort that can still be seen today, and there is a short trail that goes to the Cockspur Island Lighthouse.
Our furthest recommended destination for folks staying a couple extra days is to take a ferry to visit Cumberland Island National Seashore. Located near Jekyll Island in the Golden Isles, Cumberland Island has free-roaming horses and armadillos, a campground, beautiful beaches and ruins of a mansion that once stood on the southern end of the island. Plan for a full day on the island; ferry or private boat are the only ways onto the island.
