We met in 2015, while working at Dada Restaurant in Delray Beach, Florida. It’s fair to say that timing played a part in everything. Darren had just come back to South Florida from Israel and Kim had just come home from Tallahassee and was serving in the same restaurant that Darren was cooking at. We shared a first date drinking sake and eating sushi, not knowing then how it would practically become a past time of ours. We jokingly decided over sake bombs that we would move to Colorado together, and we stuck to our word. After a year of long distance while Darren attended his 1L year of law school, in July 2016, we packed up our two cats in Kim’s Subaru and took a three-day road trip to Denver. Our first home was a tiny apartment above a bar in “Capitol Hill”. In case it wasn’t cozy enough with the four of us, we soon added a puppy to the mix. We built a home together over the two years we had that little place. By 2018, our lives and our love felt grown up. Professionally, Kim was taking on a new career in nonprofit work; Darren was graduating and becoming an attorney. That summer, we moved to our second home together with a beautiful patio overlooking the mountains. Having come so far together — and having grown so much — from our restaurant romance, entering this phase of our lives was a huge shared achievement. That new chapter, like those before it, was filled with cherished memories, joy, and far too much food. Without ever realizing that it happened, we became best friends and partners. We were, and are, in love with one another and the life that we share. On September 16, 2019, in front of a gorgeous summer sunset behind the Rocky Mountains, Darren proposed and Kim said, “of course!” We are both so excited. We cannot wait to celebrate this new chapter of our lives with friends and family at our wedding in Key West, Florida on November 27, 2021! Especially after these strange and distant times, we are counting down the days.
