How We Met

4/20/2015

Our story began at Plattsburgh State University, where we were both students navigating the excitement and uncertainty of freshman year. Like most first-years, we leaned on the people around us, focused on finding our footing, and had no idea we were about to meet the love of our lives. Somehow, our paths had crossed multiple times—both growing up and on campus—long before we formally met. That moment finally came in the library during finals week. Kimberlee was working on an English paper, while Jason was working with her roommate to prepare a presentation for their final. We kept to ourselves at first, until a debate over a grammatical detail sparked an unexpected (and now unforgettable) exchange. Soon after, Jason left for his next final, and we went our separate ways—unaware that this small moment would lead to something much bigger. We didn’t reconnect until the start of our second semester, when Jason and Kimberlee's roommate both joined Minor Adjustments, the campus acappella group. This led to twice-weekly group dinners, which Kimberlee quickly made a point to attend regularly. It didn’t take long for the group to become a central part of our lives. Between the regular dinners and performances, we spent more and more time together—and slowly, a friendship began to grow into something deeper. While Jason’s feelings became clear, Kimberlee remained completely unaware (even trying to set him up with her roommate!). That is, until her roommate quite literally locked the two of them in a room together. What started as a forced conversation turned into hours of laughter, connection, and shared stories. By the end of that night, Jason asked to hold Kimberlee’s hand—and soon after, to take her on a date. After a week of spending nearly every day together, we knew this was something special. We officially became a couple—though, at the time, we had no idea the significance of the date we chose. (We definitely know now!) Nearly 11 years later, we still feel like we’re in the honeymoon phase. We are so excited to celebrate this next chapter of our lives surrounded by the people we love most. Thank you for being part of our journey!
