Due to a change in his job, Walker found himself moving back to his original 'hometown' of Atlanta in late 2017. Waiting to welcome him with open arms was Mark Ross, one of Walker's oldest and closest friends. They started playing football together in the 7th grade, were teammates and close friends during their years together at Peachtree High School and have always maintained a special friendship even after they found themselves living in different states. Angela and Kelly Lawrence first met about 15 years ago in Atlanta, and their friendship has grown and strengthened 'bestie' status over the years. In 2017, Angela found herself newly single and she was spending a LOT of time 'third wheeling' with close friends Kelly and her boyfriend Mark. Do you see where this is headed? On New Year's Eve 2017, Mark and Kelly planned a dinner out with a group of friends followed by ringing in 2018 at their lake house and then hanging out over the weekend to watch the Rose Bowl (Georgia vs Oklahoma). Both Angela and Walker were invited. Walker had heard about how much time Angela had been spending with Mark and Kelly and remembers asking them not to get any 'matchmaker' ideas. He explained that he really wanted to focus on getting settled in Atlanta with his job transfer without any "distractions". On New Year's Day, Angela and Walker ended up sitting on the same couch to watch football. There was lots of laughing...lots of conversation...a great Rose Bowl win for the Dawgs...and apparently (as Kelly recalls) over the course of the weekend, Walker and Angela started sitting closer, and closer together. There was a definite spark and Walker ended up telling Mark and Kelly "forget about what I said about playing matchmaker...hook a brother up"! Walker was still in the process of finalizing his move to Atlanta from Tampa, and after he got settled in his new place in Buckhead, he and Angela started seeing each other regularly. The rest is history!
Here's our engagement story in Angela's words: So, on a splendid and sunny afternoon in Amsterdam, sitting outside at a craft beer bar on the last day of our European vacation, the man I love more than life itself asked me to marry him! We were having a private moment, holding hands across a wooden table, perched at the edge of the canal, I leaned across the table to kiss Walker and I told him “I can’t wait to marry you.” It was at that moment that he reached into his pocket and pulled out a beautiful ring and asked me to be his wife. I am the happiest and luckiest woman alive! Then a lovely family from Australia joined us and paid our tab!
