September is one of the best times to see elk in Colorado, and Moraine Park is the place to go. If you head there around sunrise or sunset, you’ll likely catch big herds of elk during their mating season. The males elk's bugling calls are incredible to witness!
The Bear Lake trail is a short, family-friendly hike that still provides beautiful views of Rocky Mountain.
The Fall River entrance to the park is a beautiful drive that gives a great chance to see elk, moose, and bighorn sheep. One of our favorite spots to explore is along the Old Fall River Road, which passes the Alluvial Fan waterfall.
This is hands down one of our favorite hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park. It starts at the Glacier Gorge trailhead and is about 6 miles round trip. Along the way, you’ll pass Alberta Falls and follow a creek with some awesome spots to fish or just relax by the water.
This is another great hike if you’re looking for mountain views and a bit of adventure. It starts at the Glacier Gorge trailhead and is around 5.5 miles round trip. The trail takes you through the forest along another beautiful creek before opening up to the Loch—a beautiful alpine lake surrounded by dramatic peaks. It’s a little climb, but totally worth it!
If you're up for a full-day hike, Lake Odessa is an awesome choice. The trail has incredible views, great chances to spot wildlife, and some amazing fishing if you bring a fly rod. We recommend starting at the Bear Lake trailhead and finishing at Fern Lake, then catching the shuttle back up to Bear Lake. It’s a big hike, but totally worth it if you're in town before or after the wedding!
