It was the Monday after Thanksgiving, 2016. Michael boarded the plane in Cleveland to head back to Los Angeles, where he had recently moved for work. During his flight, he heard two, loud children directly in front of him. As soon as these children locked eyes with Michael, they became quieter. Michael waved and smiled at them as they peeked through the back of their seats to look at him again, playfully. This pattern continued throughout the flight. When the plane landed, Michael got out of his seat and waited to de-board. As he waited, the mother of those two young children turned around to thank Michael for distracting her boys during the flight. This mother was Natalie, Alexandra’s sister. Immediately after seeing Michael, Natalie’s big sister, match-making instincts kicked in and she commenced a full vetting inquiry. She was successful, too. Within five minutes, Natalie was able to learn that Michael is Lebanese, Maronite Catholic, a Wharton MBA, and recent transplant to LA. At this point, Natalie insisted Michael had to meet her sister Alexandra, “To show you around LA since you’re new here, of course! No pressure AT ALL!” She proceeded to hand Michael her business card. “Shoot me an e-mail and I’ll put you in touch!” While walking out of LAX, it dawned on Natalie that perhaps her anxious and excited energy may have given off the impression that Alexandra was the poor, ugly duckling of the family whom she was trying to pawn off on Michael. As Michael waved goodbye and said, “Nice to meet you all,” Natalie feverishly pulled up a photo of Alexandra and yelled out, “WAIT! See? My sister’s pretty, too!” Michael e-mailed Natalie the next day. “It was nice to meet you yesterday. Your kids are quite cute. I would love to connect with your sister if she has time.” Seconds later, Alexandra was cc’d on a reply from Natalie to Michael, “Michael, meet Alex. Alex, meet Michael. I’ll let you two take it from here!” ...and the rest is history!
