Justin was one of those people who sort of floated just outside of my sphere of friends and acquaintances. We had mutual friends and almost certainly crossed paths whenever I walked into the 34th Street Sam Ash while he was working there. Timing, circumstance, and pure luck had us meet and form an instant connection almost 2 years ago. We were already in our mid-20s, so you'd think I wouldn't get butterflies and giddiness like a 16 year old on her first date. The giddiness very soon settled into a feeling a deep comfort and contentment as I continued to get to know him. Our first conversation covered everything from Super Smash Bros to the crumbling NYC subway system. As we continued to connect, we quickly realized we were kindred spirits in almost every way. We shared similar interests, had almost identical life approaches and values, and a deep passion for life and everything it offers. (He also learned how to cook Guyanese style curry in only one month - score!!) Each passing day continues to show me how kind, thoughtful, multifaceted, passionate, grounded, and intelligent Justin is. I couldn't have found a better life partner and best friend.
It is truly something exceptional when you cross paths with an individual with whom you feel the excitement of young love and also with whom you find a synergy for your shared future. It is rare to find someone who you can buy a house with, grow as a professional with, and when society ends you know you can take on the zombie apocalypse with; someone who after a day's work of being an HBIC, will come home to play video games, watch an anime, and hold onto her collective inner kid; someone who will take boat trips with you, sledgehammer walls with you, and knit while you draw and play music. Even though she's a vegetarian and I have to keep my steaks in the outdoor freezer, I remind myself how lucky I am every single day to have found Nini. I can't wait to take on the world, start a family, build our orchard in Guyana, and never stop having adventures.
