As fate would have it, Shaoleen and Colin first crossed paths on a cruise ship in April 2016. Shaoleen was on college spring break with her friends and Colin was a last minute invite on a boys trip with his college friends. They were assigned to the same dinner table, but they did not truly speak to each other until the second to last day of the trip, after their last excursion in Cozumel, Mexico. Colin expressed interest in Shaoleen to Shaoleen's friend, Kian. He successfully match made them and they spent the last day on the cruise learning about each other. During breakfast right before they went their separate ways, Shaoleen asked for Colin’s number to keep in touch. Colin’s first text to Shaoleen that evening was a revolting picture of a sunburn blister on his knee acknowledging her interest in pursuing medicine. They spoke frequently through text and one day, he invited her to a soccer game in Philadelphia. Colin was smitten with Shaoleen and he wanted to see her again, thus, he invited her to Atlantic beach, NC for 4th of July 2016 to meet his family. On the second day, Colin and Shaoleen spent the day exploring Beaufort and seeing the majestic wild horses. That evening the two love birds went to dinner and dancing & afterwards walked on the beach. Colin asked Shaoleen to be his girlfriend and she immediately said no. Shaoleen thought it was ridiculous to be starting a relationship as she was heading off to medical school in Grenada, West Indies in one month and they would have to do long distance for two years and maybe more, since they are not from the same hometown. Colin was persistent and had faith in their love and truly believed their relationship could overcome any obstacles. After some cheeky back and forth banter, around 5am, Shaoleen finally said, "Yes let's see where this journey takes us!"

After almost four and a half years of dating, Colin planned a surprise proposal at Castle Mculloch, Jamestown, NC! He urged his mother, sister, & Shaoleen’s mom to convince Shaoleen to attend a Christmas caroling & tea party event after an overnight shift in the Medical ICU, which Shaoleen was initially quite reluctant as she would be very sleep deprived. After her night shift with little to no sleep, Shaoleen hopped in the car with Colin in fitness attire—he was stressed as he'd never seen her this underdressed. When they arrived at the Daly residence, she saw everyone dressed to the nines for the caroling event. Thus, she quickly rushed to change into appropriate attire. Caroline drove the ladies to the main gate at which they were greeted by a sign that said, “Christmas Caroling this way.” Shaoleen exited the car & saw not a car or soul in sight—she was very confused. Shaoleen’s mother handed her a card that said, “Your prince awaits at the castle.” She walked down this beautiful bridge ornate with wreaths & rose petals on the ground leading to a nervous prince waiting in front of a castle. Shaoleen was in utter shock with eyes filled with tears. Colin got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me & make me the happiest man in this world?” This time around Shaoleen did not hesitate one millisecond to say yes! After the romantic affection exchanged, Shaoleen wished to fix her tear-smeared makeup inside. When she opened the castle doors, she was greeted by Colin & Shaoleen’s family! The second best surprise Colin planned & the biggest squeal was when she laid eyes on her best friends, Kian & Annie, who flew from CT & CO respectively, to surprise her on this momentous occasion! The evening was filled with eating, drinking, and fun dancing with loved ones! This Christmas was particularly special as both families were under one roof celebrating the holidays & sharing/blending each others sweet traditions. It was a true hallmark-fairytale holiday engagement!
