There are many steps to a traditional Igbo marriage including formally asking the bride's parents (Ikuaka/door knocking ceremony), a bride price/dowry, and finally the Igba Nkwu/wine carrying ceremony. The wine carrying ceremony will take place during the reception! At this lively event, the bride must search for her future husband who is hiding among the crowd of men. She dances joyfully while scanning the room for him. She must correctly identify her fiancé and then offer him a cup of wine, which he must then drink from to denote he is indeed her groom. The couple is then declared married, there’s another outfit change and jubilant dancing erupts. A fun part of any Nigerian party is spraying money on the celebrants. There will be a change table available to get some 1s to spray on the dance floor.
