Maid of Honor
Natalie and I met under uncertain circumstances. It was our freshman year at Westmont college and, as the nervous little chickens that we were, took a leap of faith and signed up for a camping trip on the Channel Islands with a few other new students. We were looking our best (in sports shorts, tank tops, and with unwashed hair) and feeling our best (a little nauseous from the long boat ride). We bonded over shared allergies and food preferences, truly bonding through suffering. We transferred to APU together and lived in a tiny little dark apartment. She cared for me when I got my wisdom teeth removed and I cared for her at some point (probably). It's been a wild ride, but Natalie will always hold a special place in my soul. Natalie is a student at APU and plans to pursue her MSW!
Best Man
Kyle and I met when I was finally taken home from the hospital after a lengthy stay upon my earthly arrival. Through all of the name calling and my lengthy journey to maturity, the relationship that Kyle and I share has blossomed into a rich friendship and brotherhood. Whether it comes in the form of theological questions, inquiries regarding the time required to cook delicious meats, or something in between, Kyle has turned into one of my rocks in life. I am beyond excited that Rebekah and I have moved up to the Portland area, where Kyle and Cat reside. I can't wait to see our relationship grow with the help of physical proximity for the first time in about 12 years. What a joyous day. Or in Kyle's simpler words, "cool."
Bridesmaid
Sarah and I met in (drumroll, please!) budubudubuhhhh... Boston! Surprised? While we were both living in the Bay Area at the time, Sarah and I were invited to a leadership program at Gordon College. It took us almost the entire week to talk, but as soon as we did we really bonded. I was thrilled to hear that she was starting school at APU at the same time that I did. We have already experienced the joys of working a wedding together and I am so excited that we will get to enjoy this one together (hooray)! Sarah has been there for me through it all (mostly bad business-related ventures, i.e. the bikeshop we ran for a semester) and I know that she always will be! Sarah is studing Business at APU.
Groomsman
God threw me an unexpected gift when I met Chris just over three years ago. First we were roommates who did not know each other, but we were bound to be close friends due to our mutual love of baseball and heavenly overdriven guitars. But our brotherhood, yes I say it again, has exceeded my wildest expectations. From late night talks, to random beach excursions, it is safe to say that Chris' reluctant acceptance to my adventures has created a bond that will last for eons. Though he won't admit it as freely or vivaciously as I will, I know Chris misses me dearly now that we are 1000 miles apart. But every day I know that he is one text away, ready with a Parks and Rec quote to brighten my day.
Bridesmaid
(A.K.A. Bean) Not only is Christina my sister, but she is also one of my best friends. We love to visit the beach together, go on long drives, and explore new coffee shops. She is one of the most creative, adventurous, and caring people that I know. Bean is always there to make me laugh! She is entering her senior year of high school at Valley Christian where she is involved in mission work and is a rockin water polo player.
Groomsman
If Chris was the unexpected friend from my apartment three years ago, Daniel is the opposite. We met nearly six years ago when I visited APU as a senior in high school when Daniel was a freshman. And though it took us two more years to invest deeply in our friendship, the result has been legendary. As similar as we are in energy and desire for adventure, I never cease to learn something new with every gift of conversation that I am able to share with Daniel. As the only person who walks down the sidewalk faster than I do, Daniel finds ways to always encourage me to push for more and greater, while also taking joy in contentment. Now we are both in a new adventure as high school teachers. What a joy.
Bridesmaid
Elena and I have been friends for life! She is the person I have known and cared for longest (besides my parents). I can always count on Lane for karaoke and awesome amp-up speaches. She is encouraging, exciting, and tons of fun. Elena is currently pursuing a degree in business and economics at UT Austin where she also competes on the track and field team and sings on her college group's worship team.
Groomsman
Just as my dad likes to describe licorice mint tea, you don't meet Scott, you experience him. I first got to experience Scott nearly eight years ago in my first few weeks in Oregon. We quickly became best friends, and we have thankfully yet to cease that agreement. Scott has an amazing knack for bringing joy and excitement into every room he is in. As we grew up into men together, Scott and I have always bonded over guitars and delicious food. It pains me that he lives so far away, but every time that we reunite, it is as though we never left.
Bridesmaid
Esther and I met the summer after fifth grade. It was our first time at Camp Phillip and we were in the same cabin! Us girls had plenty of crazy adventures and quickly became friends. Although we only lived 45 minutes from each other, it felt like an eternity at that age. We wrote letters to each other often to keep in touch (this was way before either of us had cell phones to use)! Now we live states away, but have continued our strong friendship. Esther attends UW Madison where she studies nursing and will be joining the Air Force next year.
Groomsman
My first introduction to Caleb was in Physics class at APU four years ago. While Caleb may claim that I saved his life as his Discrete Math tutor, it is safe to say that he has had a far greater impact on me. We spent countless hours together doing math, as we both earned math degrees from APU. We spent almost as many hours playing NBA 2k basketball on his xbox. Though Caleb and I were apart for a year and a half after he graduated, our bond has grown even stronger. Through plenty of tough moments, Caleb has taught me the true meaning of selflessness and generosity. Of course, he kind of owes me since the job he got me broke my wrist ;)
Bridesmaid
I met Kristen after dating Kevin for about a month. We clicked immediately. Kristen loves to laugh and joke around with her friends and family. She is an incredible singer and actress. I love Kristen's zest for life and constant words of encouragement. She has played a wonderful part in our lives! Kristen is currently living outside of Phoenix with her husband Ian and their three precious dogs, Finn, Luigi and Sawyer.
Groomsman
Ian and I met about five years ago, and he had quite the bill to live up to. One day, my sister called me and calmly said, "So I just bought a dog, and I also just started dating my future husband." As it turns out, the dog she bought is truly amazing, and Ian is even greater. So much so that when I first spent extended time with him, I walked up to Kristen in my parents kitchen and whispered in her ear "if you don't marry him, I'm going to ask him to be my lifelong roommate." In all seriousness, Ian is wonderfully gracious, and oh so caring. I continue to learn from him, even from afar as he lives and works with seed research in Minnesota.
Bridesmaid
Cat is Kevin's sister-in-law and Kyle's wife. She is super caring and super sarcastic. We clicked one day in Oregon when I went with her to their neighbor's farm to feed the chickens, goats, and alpaca. It was honestly such a blast to do something that we both enjoy together. If you want to practice your French on Wedding Weekend, hit Cat up. She has a degree in the language!
Groomsman
Joaquin is Bekah's (barely) younger cousin. They've been close pals since they were babies. They share common interests, like talking politics, reading, and drinking coffee. When they're together you can find them joking around, making each other laugh, and having deep, meaningful conversations. When Quin and Kevin met, they clicked pretty quickly, and they've gotten closer ever since!
Bridesmaid
Suzie is an absolute joy. She is thoughtful, talented, determined, and completely lovely. Since we've known her, she has been a rock through every experience. She is wonderfully supportive and encouraging. I love just hanging out and chatting with Suzie, her friendship is both consistent and exciting. We love to picnic, eat dairy free ice cream, and laugh together. Right now, Suzie works at APU in the Study Away office.
Flower Child
Maddie is a spunky goofball who loves to make our family and friends smile. Although she hasn't been a part of our home for very long, she has had an infinite impact on all of our lives. I can't spend more than a minute with this girl without being filled with joy. We are both bakers and readers at heart and love a good Barnes and Noble adventure. I am thrilled that Maddie is joining us as our very tall, very beautiful flower girl!
