As fate would have it

We found love in a hopeless place

From our chance encounter at The Bungalow in Santa Monica, to our nuptials in Half Moon Bay, and many places in between. It has been quite the journey, and we are excited for the next chapter.

OUR "HOW WE MET" STORY

AS RECOUNTED BY A MR. KEVIN SMITH

1/15/2018. I arrived at Rosenthal Wines. Phoebe was already there with a group of girls to celebrate her friend Michelle’s birthday. I saw her and was instantly smitten. I wanted to find a way to wade through the gaggle of women for one chance to talk to her but doubted my ability to perform that high-level of infiltration. Alas, I let her walk away without even the feeblest of attempts. What I didn’t know is that Phoebe was one of only 2 single girls in the group, and her friends would’ve welcomed me with open arms. I was then dragged against my will to The Bungalow, a cantina filled with the scum and villainy of LA. In a stroke of fate, I saw Phoebe walk in with the rest of the girls. Second chances are real. This time I waited until Phoebe approached the bar with 2 others (a much easier number). I intercepted and tried to awkwardly confess my now hours-long love for her. Unfortunately, it came out as “I was very worried that no one would come up to you and tell you how beautiful you looked at Rosenthal Wines today.” Phoebe was unmoved by that line and responded bluntly with “You were worried?” However, Michelle/Laura chose to ditch her. They are the real heroes. Phoebe went on to continue rejecting me with biting responses to everything. Lastly, “can I buy you a drink?” was met with “no, but you can buy Michelle a shot.” Emboldened by the endorsement of the 2 friends, I grabbed that shot and skipped across to the rest of the group to explain my infatuation with their friend. After a while, I was finally told by Laura to “go hit on Phoebe more.” Turns out, we have an incredible amount in common, from humor to sports to our chosen career. She showed me her newly-minted Bumble profile that had some hiking photos. I asked her if she wanted to go on a hike. She said yes. We texted all night, culminating in a perfect text (Phoebe to Kevin) of the mustachioed Casanova Tom Selleck in his 80s short shorts indoor volleyball uniform. Once she sent that, it was over.
