How We Met

You are my best friend

Those that know me well, know that once I see something I like I jump in feet first without hesitation or much thought. This life approach shined bright when I first saw Kevin walking up the sidewalk on our first day of high school orientation. Those curls, girl please! I noticed (well teenage girl obsessed over) Kevin straight away. Where I jump feet first, Kevin dips his toes and slowly wades in, taking a little while to warm up to something new. Sophomore year Kevin finally thought I was pretty cool, but by then I had given up hope and moved on. We spent most of our high school and college days as best friends, but always kept an eye out for each other. Finally on Valentines Day 2014, Kevin came to visit me in NYC and since those first couple long island iced teas we have been inseparable. Despite the distance between NYC and DC, Kevin made our relationship official a few short weeks later. He said, "I''ve missed you too many times in the past and I'm not going to let it happen again because you are too amazing and I know I'll lose you for good this time." What more could a girl ask to hear? I was in. Reflecting now five years later, I see the story of how we met perfectly shows our greatest strength as a couple today. He checks my knee jerk reactions and forces me to consider and think clearly, while I press him to try new things and take chances. - Morgan

The Proposal Story

I love you to the moon and back.

I wanted my proposal to Morgan to surprise her. Enter me way over thinking how I could pull this off. I knew there was a line of making it too obvious what I was going to do. I thought staying somewhere local-ish over planning a big weekend getaway would help me throw her off the trail. I had gotten the two of us a night at The Inn at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club on Kent Island a few months prior to the big day. I even went as far as moving the weekend once when she had something come up without making a big deal of it. Morgan had once made a comment to me to make sure she had her nails done for the proposal. This certainly would make it harder to surprise her with if I randomly started pushing her to get hers done for the first time ever. By some miracle the day prior, Morgan mentioned her mom was going to get hers done and I lightly suggested Morgan join her and I felt like the planets were aligning for me that day. The first activity I had planned was to go do a distillery tour at Blackwater Distillery. Here we learned all about their rum distilling process, sampled some very tasty spirits, and I even made sure we picked up a few bottles to help memorialize what I knew was going to be a very big day. After that we made our way back to the inn and grabbed the bikes to tour the island. We biked through a park and along the northern coast. I wanted to propose at sunset which did mean we were on a bit of a schedule; not something Morgan and I are known for being the best at keeping. This might have been one of the bigger giveaways of what I was planning to do. I rushed us back to the hotel, rushed getting cleaned up, and rushed us to Matapeake Park. We walked out onto the rocks and when I looked into her eyes I knew the jig was up. She knew. A little weak kneed I knew I didn’t get the super chill and romantic speech I had planned out, but when I knelt down and asked she said yes. -Kevin
