They met at work (shout out to the old Officite crew) in 2013 and didn't know what to think of one another. Kevin's initial impression was that Jenae was annoying and Jenae thought Kevin had weird fingernails (she didn't know at the time that those were necessary for guitar fingerstyle). They soon became overly competitive with one another at after-work volleyball/darts and discovered a deep mutual bond in general nerdery. There was one hitch though, Jenae already had a boyfriend. They danced around one another at the office and other company events, keeping a great friendship but always avoiding the obvious chemistry of what could possibly be more. The situation came to a head when Kevin asked Jenae to tell him that there was no chance with her so he could move on. She found she couldn't admit to that. After that realization, it was only a matter of time before there was a breakup and change of job. The two called it official August 8, 2014 with a Guardians of the Galaxy movie date.

The trap was set. Multiple Rach family members conspired to bring Jenae to a nonexistent work award ceremony for Joanne (the mother of the groom). They seemed trustworthy enough, so Jenae took the bait. Kevin ushered her to Cantigny Park in Wheaton, IL where they would meet the rest of the family for the "award ceremony" hosted there. Upon arrival, the park attendant asked, "What brings you to Cantigny today?" To which Kevin responded, "Oh, just meeting some people." Jenae's eyebrow immediately shot up. Warning flag #1 -- why didn't he say the award ceremony? They drove into the park and found a parking lot with only a few other cars parked in it. Warning flag #2 -- where were the people? They headed through the blooming park towards the mansion. Along the way, they spotted a photographer (cleverly planted by Kevin). He asked if she was a photographer for the fake award ceremony. She said yes, and asked if they wanted a picture. Jenae was worried (as usual) about being late and was trying to rush Kevin onward, but he insisted they take a picture since they looked so good for the ceremony. Jenae reluctantly agreed. Warning flag #3 -- Kevin doesn't like posed photos. They found a spot between gates with a gushing fountain in the background. It was then that Kevin lowered down to one knee and the surprise of a proposal finally hit Jenae. YES! Kevin orchestrated the entire surprise and then afterward he gathered some close friends to meet at a local brewery to celebrate (the first time seeing them after MANY months due to Covid).
