Women: If your dress is strapless, has thin straps or is off-the-shoulder, please bring a scarf, shawl or cover-up to wear during the ceremony as a sign of respect. Men: A formal suit is appropriate. There’s no need to change outfits between the church and reception—you can wear the same attire for both. Simply bring a scarf or cover-up for the ceremony, and you’re all set!
Traditionally, men sit on the left side and women on the right, but modern weddings may allow mixed seating.
A Coptic Orthodox wedding typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour and includes hymns, prayers, and a crowning ceremony. The service will be conducted in Coptic, Arabic, and Dutch. A pamphlet will be available at the church entrance explaining the rituals and meaning behind the ceremony.
Guests are not required to participate but should remain respectful and stand when the congregation stands.
Flash photography and loud cameras are discouraged during the ceremony.
If you don’t have a car, we strongly recommend using Uber to get to the hotel reception.
