Rod and I met at Kent State in 2014, and although our very first interaction was a little, let's say.. interesting, we eventually became friends. We joined our organizations in the Spring of 2015 and grew closer through that experience. There was a bad snowstorm in Ohio one night, and Rod asked to come over to our Sunnybrook apartment because he needed a listening ear, ofcourse I said yes. We stayed up super late just talking, this was the night I knew there was something more than "just friends". A few weeks later, over Thanksgiving Break, we were texting in a Blue and White group chat, and I decided to slide in his messages to shoot my shot. It just so happened that he was also in Columbus, OH, for the holiday (talk about timing). The next day, we went on our first date to see Moana (clearly, he wasn't playing). We were locked in since then. I 100% knew Rod was my person when I traveled to Maryland with him for the first time; he showed me all the places that made him who he is today, including his grandparent's home. Eight-ish years, two pups, long distance, a big move, and tons of memories (and cars, lol) later, here we are! I'm so excited to be marrying my best friend.
I'm going to tell ya'll the real story! In September 2014, a couple of the homies and I went to a Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. event to express interest in Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. at Kent State University. After the event, we went down to the HUB to grab some food, and low and behold, we noticed a group of young ladies sitting on the far end eating. We went over and asked to sit down with them and introduce ourselves. This was the very first time Kenyatta and I became acquainted with each other. We both joined our respective organizations and became close friends. One snowy night, I needed somebody to talk to and immediately called Yatta and asked to come over. She said yes, and I drove to her apartment on Sunnybrook. I laid in her arms and balled my eyes out while she held me. I felt safe and unjudged, and I always cherish that about her. Fast forward to Thanksgiving 2016, during a game of "Never Have I Ever," Kenyatta decided to shoot her shot by expressing her feelings for me. Coincidentally, I was in her hometown, Columbus, then, so I asked her on a date the next day. We went to the movies at Easton Mall to see Moana, and everything felt right, from the first time we held hands to the first kiss. The rest is history. Two puppies, long distance, countless prayers, and through it all, I will still choose you every single time!
