In 2018, Kendyl had just ended a long relationship and was ready to be single for the first time in years. Never had she braved the online dating world and wore that like a badge of honor. Unfortunately, she was told by everyone that this was how you met people in the 21st century and if she wanted to date someone other than the geriatric community, it would likely need to start there. So she decided that before her first ever solo international trip to Scotland (3 months from then) she would set up a Tinder profile in advance to meet people before arriving. After all, her dream was to fall for a Scot after reading and watching Outlander. So, she set her location to 50 miles around Edinburgh and explored. She sent some messages and received interest, but most of it was unappealing and uninteresting. She always filtered people by asking them, "What are you passionate about?" and seeing what they came up with. Biceps does not always = brains, unfortunately. She knew after one question if she'd want to continue the conversation or not. Most of them lasted one question. But then one day, after disappointing exchanges, she got a message from an Argentinian named Damian. He responded to her query with a thoughtful, funny, and intelligent response that had them both wanting to know more. So he asked her to go on a walk the next day. "I won't be in Scotland until June," she said. "I work in Redmond, can't we meet there?" he asked. Redmond.... Redmond, Washington? YES! But, she specifically set her location to Scotland and hadn't been talking to anyone in her area. The algorithm prevented that! But somehow...SOMEHOW, Damian Alberto Jose made it through that algorithm and into her DMs and quickly into her heart. They hit it off on the first date and were inseparable until she had to leave for her super exciting solo adventure to Scotland (originally to meet an international hunk!) for 2 months....AFTER she met the love of her life in America. Cool, Universe. Cool. After 2 months apart, they reconnected and have been together ever since, almost 5 years later. After all, you can't separate best friends. Even with a Tinder location algorithm.
