Despite attending a small college of 900 students, they had to travel all the way to Mexico to meet for the first time. In May of 2018 they both studied abroad in the Yucatan with Millsaps to take Spanish classes. Lee claims to have noticed Kendall right away but soon figured out she was in a relationship. On that trip they had a few conversations and became distant friends. Their true friendship didn't begin until Fall of 2018. Lee approached Kendall at a party and quickly found out she was newly single. Throughout the next year they built a friendship, became number 1 best friends on snapchat (lol), and then by the fall of 2019 found themselves going on "accidental" dates. By October they were officially together with the understanding that post graduation could lead them on their separate ways. However, here we are 4 years post graduation and planning a wedding. :)
On the first weekend of March we had plans to travel to Alabama to watch Lee's younger brother play baseball. However, that Friday night, Kym (Lee's mom) called to say she was sick with a stomach bug and we should stay home. With a free weekend ahead Lee told me he wanted to plan a fun date for Saturday since we hadn't had one in a while. (I didn't think anything of this because he plans surprise dates several times a year). On Saturday, I woke up and Lee made us breakfast and told me to be ready at 2:15pm. Once we were in the car I asked if we were heading to the zoo (our favorite place). He said yes but that he upgraded our giraffe feeding experience to include a rhino experience also. (The giraffe feeding experience was my Valentine's Day gift but we hadn't been able to go yet because I had been sick). I was so excited because I love everything about the zoo! Once we got there we were both hungry so we stopped at the zoo's cafe for a snack (chicken fingers and southwest egg rolls - our favorites!). Right before 3:00pm we started to head up to our Rhino experience. We were directed by a zookeeper to a private area with a pavilion with a close up view of the rhinos. I started to take a video to share with my friends when Lee started pressuring me to put my phone down and come look at the rhinos (he was on a time crunch apparently! lol). I went to stand beside him to look at the rhinos (they were so close to us!) and then he turned me to the side and said he had a question for me. That was when he got on one knee, pulled out a beautiful ring and said "Kendall, I love you so much, will you please marry me?" Instead of saying yes I said "Are you being for real right now?" (I was in shock that he would do this when his mother was sick and couldn't be there!) When he assured me he was serious I said yes and immediately started sobbing. Then all of our closest friends and family came through the doors and joined us in celebrating this joyous moment! It is a day I will truly never forget and I am so grateful to spend my life with this thoughtful, and incredible man. We cannot wait to celebrate our new journey with you all, see you in Nashville!
