We met in the summer of 2013 on 6th Street in Austin. Some of you may or may not know about 6th Street--- for those who don't, 6th Street is a stretch of bars in downtown best known for live music, big crowds, and lots of libations. More infamously, it is also known as "Dirty 6th," by local Austinites for its Bourbon Street-like feel. We were each with our own groups of friends on the roof top of the same bar, the Blind Pig Pub. Kelsie was with a friend from college who was visiting Austin for the weekend. As it turns out, that same friend went to grade school with JJ in Coronado, and recognized him from across the bar. After some initial awkward "hey, do I know you?" kind of talk, our groups combined and we all started talking. Little did we know that we had just met our future spouses during this chance encounter.
JJ rented out a boat that cruises up and down the river in downtown Austin. He originally sold it as a “work dinner cruise" to make sure I was dressed and ready for a nice-ish event. When we showed up to the dock, & it was just us boarding the boat, he claimed that his "alleged" coworkers were in fact not going to make it after all but we can use the boat since we already have it rented. At this point, it was very obvious that something BIG was happening. We both started laughing in a "you know that I know what's about to happen" kind of way. Then, on that cold but beautifully clear evening in December, JJ got down on one knee.
