OK! This is our absolute favorite of the boat tours! It's close, pretty cheap and it's run entirely by a husband and wife team. Kelsey has taken this tour at least 8 times! This is a Bayou tour, which is a little different from a swamp tour mostly because of the scenery. On the bayou tour you get a lovely clear view of the expanse of the bayou and the grass lands, and the boat can go a lot faster ;). A swamp tour has its own beauty too, you will get more old cypress trees and Spanish moss.
This is certainly one of the best museums in the city! There is a lot to see, you could spend 2 days there, but it's worth seeing what you can in one. A word of warning, it's not an upbeat adventure, but it is a beautiful, interesting, well put together museum and I can not recommend it enough.
WE LOVE CITY PARK! It is huge park with tons to do. You can putt putt, rent bikes, paddle boat, kayak, ride a tiny train, or just enjoy the trails! They also have a kick butt children's museum, sculpture garden and art museum. This is also where you can see some of the most amazing 400 year old oak trees that will use blow your mind. They may even have their Christmas lights up by November!
Frenchman is kind of like the local's Bourbon Street. All of the food on Frenchman is great and there is good music everywhere. You don't even have to go into any of the clubs or restaurants to enjoy Frenchman, just walk down the street and join in the dancing. Wait until after dark, sometime around 7 or 8 is when Frenchman really comes to life. Also, if your lucky, you will catch the art market!
Kelsey and her dad went on this tour and just had a blast!
Just downriver from New Orleans in Chalmette is the site of the January 8, 1815, Battle of New Orleans: Chalmette Battlefield. Many people believe that this last great battle of the War of 1812 between the United States and Britain was unnecessary, since the treaty ending the war was signed in late 1814, but the war was not over. This isn't an all day excursion but it is a very cool thing to go check out. I suggest stopping by on your way to the bayou tour, they are very close together.
There are tons of great tours and tour guides out there, choose your own adventure! The haunted tours are fun because you'll get all of the best ghost stories of New Orleans. Ask for Tiny, he's one of our favorites tour guides!
One of our good buddies, Mike, is a food and beverage tour guide! Learn and taste the history of food and/or cocktails of New Orleans.
We walk the Mississippi river nearly every day! If you're a runner, it's a great place for a run. Walk the river and watch the giant ships go by. If you start your river walk by the M.R.B. and walk towards the CBD (where the skyscrapers are) you'll pall Jackson Square, The Natchez Steamboat, Cafe Du Monde, and you'll end at the aquarium, and the riverwalk shopping mall. The sunrises and sunsets are incredible. Spend some time on the river.
This is one of our newer parks in town. Also on the river but it will take you towards to the neighborhoods in the city. This park doesn't have any restaurants, so bring water and/or food if you would like to stay a while. If your brought your pups with you, there is a dog park! This is the flattest, smoothest trail in the city, so bring your scooters, bikes and roller skates to this park. It is also one of Kelsey's favorite places to take a morning run.
Great place to listen to live music! Situated in the heart of the French Quarter on St. Peter Street, the Preservation Hall venue presents intimate, acoustic New Orleans Jazz concerts over 360 nights a year featuring ensembles from a current collective of 50+ local master practitioners. On any given night, audiences bear joyful witness to the evolution of this venerable and living tradition.
Shopping, dining, History and one of the oldest churches in Louisiana! One of the coolest parts of Jackson Square is the abundance of Street art and performers, come have some fun with local artists.
Excellent breakfast near the river! Start your day there then do some shopping or walk the Mississippi.
Ok, normally we say stay away from Bourbon, but this is one of the best greasy spoons in town. Open 24/7, we usually go for breakfast!
Good breakfast! There are several around town :) they are all good!
Pastries!!! Just the best Pastries and other breakfast too! Enjoy!
Some of the best Po'boys in town. Kelsey likes the hot sausage po'boy and Joel likes the roast beef or the fried shrimp!
Another delicious po'boy shop!
Muffulettas! This is supposedly the original muffuletta and Nicolas Cage's favorite sandwich of all time. The tricky part is, the restaurant has been undergoing renovations for a while, so they are selling there muffulettas at the business next door SYDNEYS! Sydneys is an awesome small convenient store, get there before 3 or 4 though, they sell out fast.
Kelsey's Favorite Muffuletta! They are traditionally served cold, but here they toast it and melt the cheese, it's so stinkin' good! The other food looks and smells good, but I always get the same thing lol.
Good food on Frenchman street, but really all of the food is good on Frenchman street.
Great Cuban food.
EXCELLENT sushi!
Only open for lunch but totally worth it for some good Cajun food. It's right down the street from our house/the wedding venue.
We've only been a few times, but it's always great! A casual spin on fine dining food.
One of our favorites! We've never been disappointed! Fancy. Excellent Seafood. Start with the lobster dumpling and end with the Salty Malty, anything and everything else in between will be perfect too!
This is one of our favorites right now! Best Thai food in town.
Get the Jambalaya supreme with the rabbit!
This is one of our favorite fancy restaurants in the Quarter. Perfect French food. We always get the escargot and whatever the special is!
Expensive! BUT, a dining experience like you've only ever seen in the movies. This is a 10 course tasting menu that changes daily. You don't know what you are going to get, so this is not for picky people or people with allergies. Every bite will blow your mind! Be treated to a a relaxed fine dining experience. If you have the time and extra cash and you love the food... just do it. MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS EARLY!
2 of our friends and former bartenders opened this bar! Great food and fun!
