Toledo is a small town with lots of history. Although there are fun things to do while there, you will be able to fit them in within the couple days of the wedding festivities. We do not recommend getting into Toledo any sooner than Wednesday afternoon, and frankly you would be completely fine arriving Thursday prior to festivities. Ideally you would stay in Toledo Thursday- Saturday +/- a day depending on your travel preferences. We highly recommend spending your time exploring Madrid if you happen to have extra days before or after the wedding! :)
Taxi is the easiest way to get from place to place, although within the old town of Toledo, everything is walking distance. Just beware that roads are cobblestone and it can be hilly. Taxis from Toledo city center to the wedding venue and other tourist sites are just a quick 5-10 minute ride. There are no ubers in town. Taxis can be called at this number +34 925 25 50 50 and run 24hrs
The cheapest and most convenient way to get to Toledo is by bullet train (25min). FYI- The train station is called Madrid Puerta de Atoche and is about 20-30 min uber from MAD airport. You can buy tickets ahead on either venta.renfe.com or www.omio.com. They are approx. $16 and run almost every hour, the last train being 8:45PM. When buying online- learn from our mistake and double check the ticket has correct departing and arrival city!! (Ex- MAD to TOL versus TOL to MAD) Madrid Puerta de Atocha -> Toledo Almudena Grandes There will be taxis waiting to the right the exit of the Toledo train station to take you into town. If you arrive later in the evening, just wait by the Taxi sign or call +34 925 25 50 50 Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the train is set to leave.
Madrid airport is very large. Getting from terminal to terminal can take up to 30 minutes (via tram) plus you will need to go through passport control so I would give yourself ample time prior to your flight. I would also take this into consideration when landing in Madrid- especially if you are going straight from the airport to the train station for Toledo. It took us about about an hour after landing to get through passport control to get our bags at baggage claim because of how large the airport is. Keep this in mind for timing if you are booking Train tickets in advance.
Yes. Visa is widely accepted but Amex is not, check with your credit card company prior. If you do use card, choose EUROS when processing as the rate is better. Of course having euros is recommended as well.
There is plenty to do and see! - Visit the Toledo Cathedral, Transito Synagogue, or Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. - Go to Mirador del Valle, an observation deck with great views of the city. - Visit the Museo del Greco: Dedicated to the renowned Spanish painter El Greco. - Enjoy food/drinks on the rooftop of the Carlos V hotel. - Grab tapas at El Trebol.
- Recommend getting a wall adapter on amazon prior to visiting as Europe uses different outlets than U.S. This is an example: (https://www.amazon.com/European-Adapter-TESSAN-International-Adaptor/dp/B09WDQ3G2W/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2PJ1J0CUOTT8B&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6LXqEsamPm81U_F8KbImxTKcz3SF-OZrQhWr4UIbbxo7tWB6t_Ln00AzikKci8y4UmzewMrfJlqVmie6dHViD-uw-zgmlGGfj0_6CNO0YsGPXIMBAzSfe0Kuv2GAyUx6ATxqLNC7tA9Devb9OG2hRzHigKALvqu9R8XU6r7YiLavp0kmooWwtGyeHQJTLj6pR8BZ7w8bPope24CHZIXccJmNganW8bm5SqZXIj9TipYX2FbDNc1Zu6ONU8dRTeu7xcixIiTfjIbG35TqshRyCLVsSmO9kQJJzs7I7ydtT-I.kS8k52yPlVmomV9SG4_k7pwm5uuWZkAyVZwjZGCnTbc&dib_tag=se&keywords=europe%2Bwall%2Badapter&qid=1749240126&s=hi&sprefix=europe%2Bwall%2Badapte%2Ctools%2C590&sr=1-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1)
