Kelly and Scott met at work while they were both in the same department at Montana State University. Scott’s friend Chris played a major role in connecting the couple by encouraging Scott to ask Kelly out on a date. In the classic, old-timey way that Scott is, he asked Kelly on their first date at the water cooler in the hallway of their work building. Doing his research, he took Kelly to her favorite restaurant. A week later Scott got his first dog, a 7-week old German short hair named Annie. Together all three started their journey together. This journey involved Kelly moving cross-country to New Hampshire for two years, where she finished grad school, while Scott stayed in Montana with Annie. Then Kelly took a postdoc position back at MSU, bringing her back to Bozeman, while Scott began working for a small biotech company. In the midst of adventuring around MT, Scott and Kelly got a new addition to their family, Elsie. Then, a year later they bought their first house together moving from Happy Acres closer to town to Triumph in Loyal Gardens. Fast forward a couple of years, and even through a pandemic, came Christmas eve of 2020. Scott, had been trying to get Kelly to go for a cross country ski up in one of their favorite places in Hyalite. Kelly, being who she was, couldn’t decide if she was going to work that day or not, so Scott turned to plan 2. Scott, conspiring with his sister in law, arranged to have his three nieces help him with a secret mission. On Christmas eve of 2020, during their normal zoom call to Scott’s family, his nieces were wearing shirts that read “Will you Marry Uncle Scott?” Then, Scott pulled out a beautiful MT yogo sapphire engagement ring and the rest is history. This will not only be a celebration, but will also be a sort of goodbye MT party, as Kelly accepted a faculty position at UC Merced in CA. Kelly and Scott are both excited for this next stage in their lives, so come help celebrate both of these awesome life events!
