Make it a day and see Venice and the Santa Monica pier.

Great for hiking and looking out over the city. Movie buffs will recognize it from quite a few films.

A nice (but rocky) hike down to the water and tide pools.

Pelican Cove Park

A nice beach, a wonderful beach town, and for those who want to take a stroll as close to the beach as possible without walking in sand -- there's a great walk along The Strand.
