A must see while in the area; it is about 45 minutes from our venue. It became a State Park in 1931 to preserve the North Grove of giant sequoias. This grove includes the “Discovery Tree”, also known as the “Big Stump”, the first Sierra redwood noted in 1852. This area has been a major tourist attraction ever since, and is considered the longest continuously operated tourist facility in California.
Moaning Caverns holds California’s deepest cave chamber, where you can descend deep underground on a guided walk tour. It is located just 20 minutes from our venue. Moaning Caverns’ custom flume system, fed by a 12-foot water tower, is designed to accommodate gemstone mining and gold panning, in addition cracking geodes is a big hit with rock hounds of all ages.
Located right in Sonora, about 20 minutes from our venue, is a beautiful 160 acre preserve and apple orchard. It is a cider works and distillery with hand-crafted cider, apple brandy and fruit-infused vodka. YUM. You can enjoy some wonderful drinks and a scenic picnic in the orchard, pack a snack.
